Title: Gender Markers

Hey y'all, I was thinking about when I will be changing my gender markers, and I understand some people leave their birth certificate's (either by choice or not) gender unchanged while fixing their other forms of identification. I have a born abroad certificate because I was born in Germany while my dad was stationed there. It already sounds like it'd be a huge pain in the ass to change the gender because just getting a replacement copy makes military secretaries and administrative employees cringe. For those not in the know, the military is renowned for complex, needless bureaucracy and taking forever to do anything involving paperwork. So I was wondering if it would provide a problem or any sort of mix-ups if I just changed my gender markers on things like IDs and other stuff to say "male", but left the birth certificate to continue saying "female." Has anyone else done this? I'd like to read your experiences about it.

You very rarely need a birth certificate, especially if you have a passport. It shouldn't be any real hassle at all.

The only thing I can think having an unchanged birth certificate might flub up is if you want to get married in a State where you have to produce your birth certificate to do so. Other than that I can't really think of anything that requires showing your BC, can anyone else think of something?

That leads to an interesting inquiry I also posted over in the legal section. I was curious, since my husband and I were married in Texas. When I change my gender markers, would that affect my marriage certificate, or because I left my b.c. female, would it not change anything?

It won't change anything really. Texas does seem a stickler for trans people though.

That's what worries me. I like Texas, but it ain't exactly the most progressive state there is. I'm just worried once I change my gender markers and name, they'll take notice and in a not-so-friendly way. I'm hoping that my husband being Air Force will help the matter in some small way, if they decide they have to take issue with anything. They're all about Uncle Sam and the troops down there.

We live in Colorado now. He was stationed up here a while ago. We still have Texas residency though.
