Title: Hey Everyone!

Hello hello! :icon_wave:
My name is Katherine and this is my first actual post, although I have browsed the forums several times before.
Lil' bit about me:
I told my parents that I wished to transition to being a female January of this year. I was scared to death, but they were extremely cool with it. My dad told me, "I don't care what you do as long as it makes you happy, as long as it's not killing people in their sleep". My friends were extremely supportive, especially my two closest female friends, who took me shopping with them a week after I told them.
Two days before my 18th birthday I began seeing my therapist once a week for awhile, gradually going to once every two weeks, since I didn't have too many issues to go over (I am spoiled ;D ). This was my senior year of high school, so I wanted begin my transition before college started. The day after school ended, I was full time.
I've been pretty busy lately getting everything all together. I am going to be attending Purdue for college (Computer Science), and we were up front with them about my plans. They were extremely helpful and they managed to get me a single apartment in the Co-Ed building, so I wouldn't have to be on the male floor in a dorm or anything like that (their old President who retired this summer was very stubborn about enacting anti gender-discrimination rules, seeing them not necessary). The day after fathers day I got my name officially changed to Katherine, and as of last week everything that needs to be changed over has been. Purdue even listed me as female in their records.
I've been on a low dose of hormones for one month now, and just saw my doctor last week to get my levels checked, so I'm pretty sure I'll be on a higher dosage pretty soon :) Puberty never really hit me hard at all, and even before I started hormones I never had to shave anything other than my upper lip maybe once or twice a week, and I've had two laser hair removal sessions so far to take care of that. I was so scared of actually starting this process, but once I did everything has gone surprisingly awesome!
Wow... I wrote a lot more than I thought I was going to :o
So ya, HI ALL!

Hi Katherine,
Wellcome to Susans - you have an interesting story as pubity did not hit you. Have you looked at intersexed condidtions - could that apply to you?

it kinda hit me, it just took so long to start that not much happened before I started on hormones. My family doctor just always said I was a late bloomer.

Some get their beard late.
God, I wish I could transition in University.
Its a more sheltered accepting world than the work world.
By the time you get to work, you'll be deeply integrated and
comfortable with yourself. Lucky you.
;D

Thanks ;D
I consider myself very lucky indeed, although I doubt I would think as such without all the support from my friends and family. The only one who seemed to be weird about it was my half brother, but we never really talked much before he found out anyway, so its not really that different with him.

Hi Kat,
I may have bloomed a little late too. i didn't really grow facial hair until I was about 20 or so. However, I had no idea of gender issues back then, so it's all over for me. I'm not complaining, I finally figured out I'm androgyne, I would have liked to have no facial hair and a head full of hair is all.
Welcome to Susan's. This site is very accepting of people of all gender conditions. Please check out the site rules. They are on the same page as the introductions in the forums. I'm sure at your age, you will have many questions in general for people. This place is excellent in the breadth of experience and brain power that is available to help you with many topics besides the gender ones. So feel free to join in.
I'm really happy for you that your experiences sound like they will be positive ones. I wish you the best.
Peace,
Becky

I am so happy that you are having a smooth time in your transition. I see it more and more.
It is a welcome change from what I went through a couple decades ago. Our society is changing and you are the benefactor.
And did I tell you, your picture radiates happiness and confidence. You are very pretty Kat. Welcome to our forum. What a treat it is to have you with us.

Hi Kat, glad to have you with us here at Susan's. I'm also going to be transitioning while at college this year (but I've already been in college for a while) so I hope things work out for you at school, it certainly sounds like it. :D
Puberty didn't hit me too hard either, and while I have a little facial hair it's been slowly fading away with hormones. I don't even think there's a shadow anymore, so count yourself lucky ;D
