Title: Anyone else military or prior?

Is anyone else here currently in the military, or began their transitioning process while in the military? I'm currently in the army, and will soon be out after 3 1/2 years due to a medical retirement (unrelated to gender issues). I'm completely aware of DoD's policy for trans* folk, but I've basically made the decision to seek counsel outside of the military and possibly start HRT without them knowing and paying out of pocket the last few months I'm in. (Medical board employees have told me they predict I have about 6 months remaining before I'm out, I've been in the process a couple months already). I will be starting university next year and kind of liked the idea of having been on T for a few months already when starting college. I'm just not sure if I should run the risk even though it's likely small due to the amount of time I have left in service or not.
Anyways, just seeking a little advice or opinions on the matter from people in the community, whiter I should wait or not. Thank you.

I'm former army, medical discharge. They too told me it would be about 6-10 months before I was out. It only took 2 months. Like others have said, I suggest you wait till you are out. If you do anything against military regulations now, it could effect your discharge in a negative way.
