New Jersey governor Chris Christie on Monday vetoed a bill that would have allowed transgender citizens to obtain a new birth certificate to reflect their gender identity without surgical requirements.

A two-thirds vote will now be required to override the governor's veto in order for the measure to become law — 27 votes in the Senate and 54 votes in the general assembly.

There's no word evil enough to describe that man. Even the words that the TOS won't allow in posts are too mild.

The New Jersey General Assembly has 48 Democrats, 31 Republicans, and one vacant seat.

Im sorry, here we have been able to do this for two years.

I'm always a little confused when the executive is out of sync with the legislature.  :-\

I prefer the Canadian system of (theoretically) weak executive power. Actually, I prefer a headless consensus legislature, but that's a hard idea for people used to the idol worship of contemporary politics to swallow.

Actually under our parliamentary system the chief executive, our prime minister or premier (provincial) is a dictator, period, provided they have a majority. In Ontario, where I live she wasnt even elected, just appointed when the old guy (real thief) resigned.

That's why I mention the "in theory". Canadian Prime Ministers aren't technically supposed to be executives at all. We are not supposed to have a partisan system.

I prefer the Nunavut/NWT model, where political parties are banned and all members sit, by definition as independents. The Premier, such as there is one, wields very little power and can be replaced at a moment's notice

Incidentally, I'd take Wynne over Hudak. Yeuch. :-\

I hate politics.

I've been paying attention to politics for many years in the U.S. as I feel it's a citizen's responsibility to stay informed, but the truth is regardless of if it's a democrat or a republican politician in power, I find that political news tends to make me angry. At the moment after everything hitting the papers in the U.S. I'm thinking to myself, "Christie is the best republican they can come up with to win the next presidential election? Really?"

I'm angry at the democratic party because I feel they use us as pawns to stay in power by promising to give us equal rights to their base then don't actually do it when they have the chance, instead giving people just enough of a bone so that they'll vote for them. And I'm angry at the republican party because they do stupid stuff like this and actively work against us!

At least democratic politicians do us the service of pretending to care, I suppose.

When the next election comes down to this yuppie (who's the most moderate republican contender so far) and Hillary Clinton ... I'm going to probably just vote third party like I did last time. I'm just sick of it. I'm tired of being lied to by one party and out right attacked by the other.

In light of all the progress LGBT rights made last year in the United States, I'm trying to stay optimistic. But I'll be absolutely shocked if we ever win the fight for equal rights within my lifetime.

I dont really care if its Wynn oir Hudak or whoever. They are all the same, give or take 5%. The whole system is based on a 1,000 year old model. Its broken and needs to be replaced. But I have better things to do with my time, I havent even bothered to vote in 30 years. They all end up doing the same things and they are all just versions of the same crooked thing. I live remote and self sufficient, almost off the grid, nothing they do has much effect on me so I dont much care.

The US system is different but the same. Another broken model. Who thinks, really, that one person can run a country? Like the president is able to even understand more than 2% of the issues? No one person can, its impossible.

All these people are dishonest and crooked and when they arent taking outright bribes, they are doing one another favors based on favors done for someone else on and on. Its just how it is.

I've been watching Christie and he strikes me as a person that does what he wants to with no regard to who he is running over; he seems to be all about Chris Christie. I see his appearances to promote the recovery of Sandy as grandstanding for political purposes. I do not see a statesman in Christie; he strikes me as a bully and wishy washy purely political animal. And he's rude.

I hope that the scandals that are beginning to pop up around him take him out of the pool of presidential candidates.

They're all shmucks and I'm often tempted to give up in frustration. I generally vote for the Greens because, in addition to agreeing with them, I can both have voted and not voted for the jerks in office.  :-\

This coming from a guy with no balls to speak of and a penis that went missing probably sometime in the '80s.  I get it now.
