Title: Hair
Post by: kaylagirl0806 on January 18, 2014, 05:51:39 PM
In keeping with my New Years resolution, I've decided that Kayla needs a new hairstyle that's more...her. ;D However, I'm kind of stuck in the middle of whether or not to go through this, partly because my hairdresser is the same one that my mom and sister use. :embarrassed: What should I tell my hairdresser and what would be good to get as my first feminine hairstyle? ???
Thanks so much for your love and support,
Kayla

That depends, how long is your hair? :P

Not trying to be facetious, just curious. Plus, it can help to decide what style you should get :)

This is really hard without seeing a pic of you. If you wish not to upload a photo, maybe answering these questions may help to give a sense of what's practical.

Age
Face Shape
Short/Medium/Long preference
Totally femme or andro? (sounds like you have concerns with being outed to family?)
Current Color/highlighting? Desired?
Straight, wavy, curly?
Elegant, punk, funky, easy to manage?
Any receding hair lines or hair loss?
Any prominent facial features you want to emphasize or de-emphasize?

You get the picture :)

Right now it's more or less covering the top half of my ears

umm...I'm in my late teens. My face is kind of an oval shape. I'd love medium to long length. More femme than andro and yes I'm trying to hide it from family at the moment. It's brunette and I love brunette and want to keep it that way unless I were to see something I thought was really cute. It's straight. I want the normal girl look. No hair loss or receding hair line. I don't like my eyebrows because I cant seem to figure out how to do them.
Hope this helps,
Kayla

Also, I have attempted to come out to my parents before but they think it's just hormones. I know otherwise but I have told them before so I'm at the point where I'll do what I need to do to make myself feel good ;)

It's just hard because my hairdresser has always known me as a boy so I don't know what to tell her :(

I think my first woman's cut will be a bob. That might be something to check out (but again it depends on how long your hair is).

I can understand about your hesitancy in going to your long-time hairstylist. Have you thought about finding a new one? I'm in the same boat with my dentist of 20 years whose son graduated with mine. I was okay telling my oral surgeon, new primary care doc, and optometrist, but the dentist will be hard. Not sure what to do yet.

Another option is to describe what you want or ask for a unisex cut?

Jane

Just some ideas. I'm not sure if any of those would work for you; just to give an idea of some feminine styles that I feel could work before needing to come out.
