        So, every year my highschool has a spirit week/homecoming week. Each day, there would be a different theme to dress up for. For example, one day might be wild west and the next might be favorite TV character. But the one that seems to come up every year is cross-dress day. As you could imagine, some guys and girls go all out and have fun with it. The thing is, I feel like it would be the one day of the year that I could be myself incognito.
        Now here is the problem: if I did it, I would go all out, i.e. passing. I'm afraid all of my friends would instantly figure out that I'm trans. I don't plan to come out to them until later this year (as in December-ish), though. I've also been on hormones for a few months, so that doesn't help either. What should I do?

to me it's like what's the difference . the whole point is that you on hormones you've already made the decision. What difference does it really make.

My belief on these kinds of days, though I never had them: Go as a guy. Seriously. If it's opposites, that means your default is female. If you go in a dress, skirt, etc. that day, that's just the standard guy response to such an idea, since his opposite is female. It's an odd circumstance, but that's the one time anyone who has transitioned to, or plans to transition to female, should go as a guy.

If you get asked, you can say that you're not up for that kind of idea, or, you can say that you're doing what every other girl is.

Amders, I had that choice a couple halloweens ago. I considered dressing up as myself for a costume party (unbeknownst to a lot of my friends at the time, I had been going out a lot as a woman). I decided not to.

I was concerned that people would make light of my presentation. To them it would all be part of the fun.

But it would hurt.

I think it was the right decision.

A few years ago, I was asked to participate in a "womanless beauty pageant" fund raiser. I believed in the cause, but flat-out refused to participate as, for many, the "entertainment value" of the event stems from transphobia, imho.

Back when I was in high school we had the same spirit week thing and the same dress in the opposite gender day thing.....

I ended up chickening out, even though I really wanted to.....

honestly, that's the biggest thing I regret from high school, apart from getting hauled off to jail....

Go as a guy and then every day after that, start presenting correctly?  ;D If anyone asks you why you didn't do the spirit thing, tell them you're doing it and then watch the faces when they 'get it' the next day. You will thank yourself for it later. Also: if you're transitioning on HRT, your friends will know way before December anyway.

Go with what feels right to you. 
Personally, as I have learned from three employees, they kinda knew for quite sometime.

If you are already on hormones, uh, how long you really think you are going to hide it? ??? I was scared of dressing as well in the real world. One day I dressed for a therapy appointment and that was that. My first Part-Time day lasted all of about two hours as I immediately went Full-Time the same day. It was amazing to me that no one cared at all. They were to wrapped up in their lives or so apathetic I kind of felt cheated. I had practiced come backs to what I thought would be a day of problems and hassles, didn't happen. Not one look or comment the whole day. I am still riding the wave of euphoria from that day! :) Life is gooooood, in heels! ;D

I say go for it, its pretty rare for a high school to offer a crossdress day. You will have fun and everyone is expecting that.  :angel:


I also like the idea of going as a guy then change after that. But you might want to inform the school (staff) about that change prior.
