Title: Hello.
Post by: DarkCarnival on January 20, 2014, 11:38:52 PM
Hi. My name is Kai. I am a FtM pre op transgender. I am 20 years old. This is actually the first trans form I've joined so bare with me heh. My birth name was Kylie. I have not legally changed it yet, but it is something I wish to do in the future. . I have always felt like a man. .even since I was little. I started telling people when I was about age 13-14? I got called names and shot down, so I tried going through a girly phase. . so I wouldn't be made fun of. . after graduating high school I started re coming out to the people closest to me, and for the most part. Got acceptance. I bought myself a chest binder, cut my hair and started telling people to call me by Kai. I feel more confident with myself as a male, then I ever did as a female. I feel so much more happier. . I could post more but I was just trying to make it short for now since I am nervous about the whole posting on forums. . .Oh. . I want to get the surgery. . and start going on T. . but Idk where to start. . thinking about not being able to start puts me in major depression. . i see people all over the internet. . younger then me. . starting. . i i feel like i am wasting away. . sitting here not getting anything done about anything because my parents aren't going to help me. . .

Hi Kai, welcome to Susan's.

Getting started is easy after you know what you want. Finding a gender therapist can help you find doctors and help with all the changes that happen relationship wise as well as medical. That is the usual first step. There are informed consent places but having that trained person to help deal with the harassment that can be dealt your way is always useful. They can write a letter easing your way to HRT and changing your gender marker.

Meanwhile, feel free to read up on all your options, the good and bad that go with it and make some new friends.

Regarding your comment of alot of young people starting transition nowadays...don't let the fact you started a little later bother you.  The fact I didn't start any of the physical procedures until I hit 18 (given I didn't even realize I wasn't a nutcase until I was almost 17) really hit me hard when I first started.  I ofc wished I had the chance to be one of those 10 year old transkids who get to go through only the correct puberty...mneh.

But yeah, just remember that especially as a minor at the time, the fact of the matter is that the fact you didn't start until recently was sorta out of your control, mine due to negligence, yours due to your life situation.  Don't disregard that or blame yourself for it, it can really bring you down to a dark place.

And we're all here for ya, ofc. ;)

A big warm welcome to the family! :) I hope you enjoy your time with us and get some questions answered along the way. All of the information you get here is provided by people actually going through all stages of transition and are first hand accounts of what works and what doesn't. Our photo topics show that no matter how old or young successful transitions are very possible. Here is a BIG HUG ( :icon_hug:) to start your journey out right! :)
