Title: Changing my last name?
Post by: Lex Jordan on January 25, 2014, 07:56:05 AM
Did anyone of you who are transitioning changed your last name? I am contemplating my new name and I don't know if I want to carry on my last name to my new identity. My mother and father were married for years before he died shortly after my second birthday (I'm 22 now). My mom had gotten remarried since then and has changed her last name. My only sibling (17 years older than me) with the same biological dad was born out of wedlock and has my mother's maiden name. I have our biological dad's last name and I don't know if I want to keep it. My older brother told me a couple of years back that my dad was really abusive to my mom (physically)  and I was too young to remember all of that. I already knew that my mom and dad's families hated each other and didn't really wanted nothing to do with each other; and as such I really don't know my dad's side of the family. All in all, I don't know if I want to keep the name and carry it on to my own family when I finally start one. I am pre -T FTM and I just start gender therapy. This is my first post to Susan and this has been on my mind for a while. I have had thoughts of keeping the name and just not going my it socially? Your thoughts are appreciated.

A name change is just that a name change. You can change part or all of it if you wish.

Me i am a mtf and changed mine when i got married, i took my husbands name who is ftm.

Check with your local courts on how to handle the process.
