Title: Depression cycles and their meaning

Hey everyone, today I have a rather odd topic that id like to discuss.
Upon coming out to my girlfriend, she says that she's noticed I get depressed in cycles. They are generally in tune with her period. I am ok for like 3 weeks and then it seems that I fall off the deep and and retreat to my hovel of a bed like some kind of vampire. It's not that I don't think about being a woman, it's that it isn't overburdening for 3/4 weeks.
I think I focus on it less when there isn't a hormonal state around me. When I was single for a year and a half prior to her, I didn't think about being a woman all that much, but it could've been all the copious amounts of pot. Ahh to be a teen again.
I'm ftm but pre everything. Has anyone else had a similar experience like this or is this more than likely a coincidence?
Thanks everyone! You guys/gals are a really wonderful group of people. :D

Hello Nether,
I can't speak from your perspective as I am pre mtf, but I do recognize the signs of depression as I also go through bouts. Usually it is a trigger, like a happy pretty woman shopping for clothes, that might act as a reminder and starts the depression. As you indicated, your girlfriend's period is probably the trigger or reminder and that is why your depressions correspond to the cycles.
hugs :)

Hi nether,
A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.
There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.
What you've explained is very common, particularly for you. It's not uncommon for women in large groups like factory workers to have their periods all very close to one another.
Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.
Lotsa huggs
Catherine

I know entirely what you mean Ana. I used to work at a clothing store and it was just too much to deal with.

Hi nether,
Same reply still applies. It appears your brain gender is very feminine, irrespective of how you physically present, hence your ability to 'sense' hormonal situations.

P.S. what gender is your phone?? ;D ;D

I guess it seemed a little crazy but that really makes sense Catherine. It could just be my male sex drive alerting me to pheromones and me being dysphoric for that reason but I like your response much better. :)
My phone is of course a female. We are the master race. No offense gents hehe

Actually you are 'on the money', nether. It's the pheromones your female brain is particularly sensitive to, that triggers your 'cycle'. Essentially what makes women, women. The male brain does not have this function to any great degree, it's more attuned to a 'hunter/gatherer' mode.
Seams you're well on the way to a good transition if you choose to go there.

Curse you testosterone! That hunter gatherer mode is no joke either! Lol
Thanks for the support Catherine!
I've been putting off being myself for a long time. I finally booked a session with a therapist who specializes in transgender issues and I'm really excited to get this squared away or underway.
Huggs back!

It could also be a subconscious association with something you feel signifies something you feel you missed out on, or that you wish for yourself. We don't always acknowledge the surface thoughts and feelings when something triggers the way we feel or wish we could be. Or we ignore them. But that doesn't mean they don't get through and make a home inside the deepest recesses of our mind.

Hi nether,
Congratulations. One of the best moves you can make for yourself. Transition is neither a DIY or Robinson Crusoe process. It requires dedication, selfishness, lots of research and a solid support team around you.
I guarentee you'll never look back. Your new life will provide a lifetime of unequalled opportunities, freedom and liberation beyond your understanding. Embrace and enjoy.
