Title: Interview after surgery
Post by: anibioman on January 30, 2014, 12:13:56 AM
I have a college interview right after having top surgery. It's 4 days after my surgery. I can't change it I wish I could but its too late. I'm young so hopefully I'll bounce back quickly. Do you think I can do it? or will it be a total failure?

Wow, that's really soon after.  I think it's going to be hard to tell you because everyone heals differently and experiences different levels of pain.  I'm 7 days post-op, but at 4 days - I personally was very restricted in mobility and still very very sore.

Young has *NOTHING* to do with this. It's all individual. I did a lot better than most of the younguns. So it's going to be sort of a crap shoot. You could be in good shape or not so much.

Before surgery, eat a super clean well-balanced diet, get lots of sleep, do exercise every day. That'll improve the odds you will be in good shape.

I'd say that regardless you are going to be sore (perhaps itchy and uncomfortable). I hope it's not too far and you have round trip ride (no you can't drive that early, not even a chance), and you go straight home afterwards.

My moms driving  ;D. Im in excellent shape according to my doc. I exercise daily and eat ok. I'll clean it up to prep for surgery. Thanks guys for the info. As long as I'm competent and can portray a sense of self I'll be good.

it depends I wasn't in much pain after surgery, I was up and walking around right away, I had DI. My fiancee was in significant pain for many days, he had keyhole.

Just take it easy, find a nice shirt that can cover your drains and bandages, if you have someone to help you you can "t rex" yourself into a "tight" tank top, and that will press the drains against you so they don't show as much.

whatever you do, tell them you just had surgery and mean no offense but cannot shake their hands.

I was pretty lethargic but in decent condition four days after surgery. Provided the college interview doesn't involve strenuous exercise, I'm sure you'll be fine.

You seem like a tough guy.  I think you would be alright as long as you don't over-exert yourself.

Put a pillow in the car for between you and the seatbelt. This will help a LOT. You're going to need one for about two-three weeks after surgery.

Which incision type are you getting?  That dramatically impacts recovery.  I believe you said you are going to Fischer?

Double incision.

Great.  I know she is known for her keyhole/peri, but I don't think people realize she does a really good double incision, as well.  I don't know if you met her yet, but I did and I really liked her.  She seems to really care about her top surgery patients and enjoys the work.  I hope more people use her in the future.  I would have gone to her if I didn't go to Garramone.

After your surgery, be sure to update us in the stickied top surgery recovery thread!

hey guys the interview went really well. I'm recovering really well. There was a tour after the interview. Being on my feet from 9 to 3 except for the hour I was interviewing was exhausting.

Ha thanks for the advice aleon515. My interview was two days ago. The worst part was right afterwards I had a four and a half hour ride home. So no sleeping.
