Just cautious if anybody been to or planning on attending a transgender happening or party and if so how was it. I've never been to one and I don't know any transgender people out side of Susan's .

Again I am trying to get my self to go tonight. Its around 3 now and it starts at 7:30. I know it does not matter but I would be going in boy mode. Even their website says it does not matter but I'm still chicken.

I was to a few early in my transition. They where nice to be around others who have the same feelings and fears.
Was so nice and i do miss them.

I've gone to a club that has a trans night every month. There's lots of trans girls and cross dressers. It's a blast. Everyone is either dancing or socializing.

there is a stretch of street here in Chicago that has a bunch of clubs but I've never gone into them. Once though on my way to work once I stood out side a club looking in the window staring at this hunk on a video that was playing. I didn't realize people in the club were watching me stare until some one knocked on the window.

Why? Are you worried you might see somebody you know? I don't go to parades or anything like that. Go to a place, you'll just see a bunch of people dealing with a lot of the same stuff, except they're having fun for a change.

I've been to several. They're full of people who think everyone else belongs and they don't. ;)
It's a lot of fun. :)

My org hosts an annual trans* community picnic to which we invite the entire community! plus all allies! from D.C., northern virginia, and the entire state of Maryland. It's in the late summer around Labor Day and doubles as our birthday party. We have a church that donates their entire nine acre parcel of land plus their building for the day. We expect attendance around 70-100 people, maybe more. I suppose I'm biased, but I think it's a very fun trans* focused event that offers ample opportunity for everyone to meet one another on a purely human level and just people. And we are a group that is firmly convinced that everyone belongs. ;)

I went to a few.. And then realised that I had very little in common with most of the other people there.. Hell, even my attitude to being trans was different to most. So I live my life in the non-trans world, where my attitudes to life seem to have a match.
Short version is, I really don't fit in with trans people..

Quote from: TiffanyT on February 07, 2014, 10:01:00 PMwell, one thing I was in denial a long time and tried to play it straight. I just came out and started to transition like 4 months ago. I use to go by this one bar all the time on the way to work , but never went in. Actually I don't go to any bars so not being out to my self and not really socializing is one reason for not doing it. I'm exploring the possibility now though since starting the hormones.

I've been to several events that was organized for trans people and allies. The very first time I attended a trans meeting which was the part of a monthly series of meetings. Each meeting has a central topic which is discussed at the first part of the day, often guest speakers are invited like surgeons, psychologists or other specialists. It is very informative.
At the second part of these meetings we can freely discuss what is on our mind and share stories. It is great to be with people who are in the same or similar situation as me.
When I was new at the group they welcomed me with open arms, everyone was wonderful.
After the meetings most of the time the group gets together at an LGBT club and we have a wonderful night partying till the morning. I'm not much of party-girl myself but I still have a great time.
After my first meeting I attended all the trans meetings I could go to, I met a lot of great people over the years. Of course there are a few bad apples at some meetings but they are always dealt with ;)
The organizers later started organizing picnics and tours too. I have attended almost all of them, and again, it was a great experience.
When we moved the capital city with my girlfriend we helped in the organization of a few tours and parties ourselves.
Nowadays we have a little meeting every Wednesday and we help in small things when we can but our lives got much busier since we both got work so we are not as active in the trans community as we used be.
All in all I recommend attending events, you may find a lot of people who you can relate to and form new friendships but all events are as good as the people attending, so you have to see it for yourself if it is for you or not.
