Title: Starting HRT
Post by: Sarah H on February 07, 2014, 05:18:59 PM
Who do I see to get the ball rolling to get started on HRT? What do I ask them how to I approach them with this topic? Any advice?

Thanks loves

Find yourself a therapist that deals with transgender care and knows the WPATH SOC. They will then give you a letter that you can get HRT from a Endo or GP.

A therapist will also give you help in understand GID if that is your diagnosis.

It really depends on where you live and your age. Start by contacting LGBT centers in your community and asking about doctors and therapists who are trained in this type of stuff.

You may not even need therapy to start, if there are doctors near you who practice informed consent and you meet those requirements.

For me, the shortest route was: go to psychiatrist for a General + GID assessment, get diagnosed as having GID but otherwise being fine, then going to endocrinologist with said diagnosis. It took one date only. Thought by then I had things pretty clear in my head, I went to a therapist for 2-3 months it helped having a clearer picture and feeling at ease with all of this.
