Title: What you see in the mirror
Post by: Alexa on February 10, 2014, 11:00:14 PM
I'm wondering how much your mental 'state' effects what you see when you look in the mirror?

Over the last few months since really accepting myself, I've been surprised by the fact that sometimes when I take a quick look into a mirror, I see a girl looking back. The first time this happened, I was washing my hands and took a quick look up into the mirror, and was shocked when I saw a girl looking back at me. It was like my brain for a split second thought it was someone else, and gendered them as female, then realized it was me. A very strange feeling, but it felt great.

Anyway, just wondered if anyone else had this happen, even before HRT or anything?

I'm also hoping this is a sign that I'm making the right decision...

Not with an avatar like yours girl. Look at mine. Now that is a Greek Tragedy in a Godzilla meets Pacific Rim style. ;D I finally became me when I am too old to do anything with it.

When I look at mine I see a woman, but like most women I will never think I look good enough. I feel good and am much more relaxed and happy though.

Mirrors are notorious liars!

I see your avatar and picture posts and I see a young woman not unlike any of my three daughters.

I read your posts and I sense a person with a huge heart and an unlimited capacity to love.

That's no "tragedy."  :)

I can relate, I don't actually own a full length mirror, but theres one in my dorm bathroom (i get my own bathroom so no one can walk in on me) and for the first time in a long time i could see myself head to toe. waist up i pass very well as a guy. im fairly square shouldered but once i got in front of that mirror and i saw how female my hips and my legs were my whole phsychy of im at least somewhat male just shattered and felt disgusted.

luckily i start T in a couple weeks and this won't last forever but it was rough to have that firm, BAM your a female, just slapped in my face after this build up of a masculine appearance for myself. really sucks.

When my makeup is perfect, I see a chubby woman who is very much her mother's daughter...

Without it I just hate looking at my face in general. Waiting for HRT to smooth it out into a more feminine shape... or at least hoping it will.

Um..      huh...

I didn't mean for this to turn into an "I think I look ugly" thread.   :embarrassed:

I was more wondering if anyone else had their physical view of themselves change due to an acceptance of identity.

Maybe that doesn't make sense...

Well I see an attractive woman and no evidence of him. My eyes reflect the pain of my past, but that is what created me. I see hope and a future.

I no longer see the torment and the agony.

Most of all I can now look into a mirror and not feel ill.

Oh yes, has happened to me a few times. Still does, especially going clothes shopping. But I can't tell if confidence changed my appearance or if my appearance gave me more confidence. Maybe both? But I have tried hard to see my old self in the mirror, to see a 'guy', but I can't anymore. Realistically, it's not as if a whole lot has changed. Nothing too drastic. But still, I can't see 'him' anymore. If anything, when I try to masculinize my appearance in those moments (squaring my jaw, broadening my shoulders, scowling lol, anything else I can think of) all I end up seeing is a butch female. It's very surreal and weird.

Hi,

I see and know what i am with out a mirror the mirror shows what i look like and that will remain with me for the rest of my life, it does not reflect who i am as a person , well in some ways thats not quite true  my looks are what others see and that is not an issue i dont pretend to be other than who i am .

im an intersexed female with male facial features so .... and like many of the women over the years have the same detail . our bodys and features are shaped by our hormones and a lot more we dont see going on in side of us so does how we look have to say how we are recived by others , so some of us dont have  those finer features of other females  it does not exclude us from being female or growing into women  just because a certain  group . ..... well some men think we should all look like sexy chic's .

so is it only the outer beauty that is highest in people's thinking of what we should be like, or do we have an inner beauty that surpass's that outer beauty , think about it .....

I know what i have and i know what others think about that, my acceptance is about what i show from my heart or inner beauty ,  its not based on how i look,

...noeleena...

I see a stranger who is not me. Sometimes, I see hints of me in that person, but mostly, they just look like someone I don't know and it's surreal.

I've tried asking myself this question and I cant answer it. I've never been able to. I've always looked at myself in the mirror and feel a bit silly.

I cant tell if what I feel is hatred, or disgust. I'd guess somewhere in-between but I really don't know. I don't get any kind of sinking feeling as I guess it's always been a case of 'meh thats me'.
