Title: Day one after top surgery!!
Post by: NathanExplosion on February 12, 2014, 10:57:38 PM
Hi guys, I know I haven't posted much here before. I'm FlightyBrood's boyfriend, who I know has mentioned me, though!

Please bear with me if this post isn't entirely coherent - my surgery was just over twelve hours ago, and I've been sleeping ALL DAY.

I'm really sore, but that's about it. I had zero nausea - in fact, I've been STARVING and eating a little bit of solid food. I've only taken one pain pill so far and I'm probably about to take another.

The vest they were going to put on me didn't fit, so I'm in an ACE wrap for about a week, and then I have to wear a vest for SIX WEEKS, yuck. Honestly though, I'm just really excited to see how it turned out. I feel great about it (y'know, besides sore and tired!). The only issue I had during the surgery was that the nurses and even the anesthesiologist were misgendering me like crazy. Knowing I was getting transsexual surgery. But the surgeon apparently corrected them, because they were using the right name and pronouns when I woke up. :P

It was my first real surgery, besides getting my wisdom teeth out, so I was really scared, especially because I was all alone getting my IV and everything. Side note - did anyone else had that weird pain medication that gave you an ants-in-the-pants sensation for a few seconds? That was BIZARRE.

All I'm worried about now is my boyfriend's surgery tomorrow, and being able to heal fast enough to move my car before street sweeping next week, LOL. I feel fantastic besides that.

I'll post pictures as soon as I can!

I am so glad you are feeling good and everything went well. I know it must be a load off your mind. Relax and don't try to do too much too soon. Take care! :)

Hi, Nathan!

Congrats on your surgery, mate!  Sounds like you're already doing very well - just keep up your fluids and take it easy.

Regarding your question - I don't think that I had that medication you're talking about - or, if I did, I don't remember!

Thanks for the update, mate.  Keep us posted and happy healing :)

Thanks guys, and thanks for the link anibioman! Definitely helpful to see what is in store for the boyfriend and I. He is just waking up to get ready for his surgery.

Day two feels surprisingly better already. Still sore, but I haven't taken any pain meds this morning. Sleeping in a reclining position is surprisingly not too bad. Not sure if anyone else has had to do that, or if it's just me because I don't have drains.

Really upset that I can't go with the boyfriend to his surgery. :( A lot less nervous for him though now that I've done it - it was easy!

Forgot to ask - I have incisions, but the doctor also liposuctioned some areas. The sides and between the breasts. Is it normal for those areas to hurt more? I am SORE where he lipo'd!

If you need lipo, I understand that can be quite a lot sorer than the rest of surgery. Funny thing, I thought it would be incisions but really most of the discomfort is from pressure of the bandages and itching (to me anyway).
I'm sure when your boyfriend gets out of surgery he will forgive you for not being there, as he'll feel like you did.
I was very hungry the day after surgery. Didn't eat much the day of, so no wonder maybe.
Might find a buddy to move the car for you, you are not going to be up to moving a car, I don't think. My surgeon allowed me to drive 2 weeks after. However, it was tough going and I had to drive the car underhand, lol.
I'm sure you are going to look great!! Hang in there because it isn't fun recovering from surgery. It's nice you'll have your boyfriend and you can keep each other company.

Might need someone to drive us to our post-op then... They told me I could drive after about a week, but we'll see how I feel I guess!

Boyfriend should be getting out of his surgery any minute now.

I had one little question... is it normal to feel kind of a squishy movement inside of my chest, like some liquid moving around? I'm assuming it's from the lipo and not having drains but it's really gross!

It is logical to me that the squishiness you are feeling is the blood/fluid that your body has not absorbed yet (the stuff that comes out in the drains other docs use).

Yes, you guys have to get someone to drive you to your post op appointments.

ETA:  Sorry I highlighted the wrong post when I responded.
