Hey all, just found this article. http://www.kirotv.com/ap/ap/top-news/apnewsbreak-new-gender-options-for-facebook-users/ndNKq/ (http://www.kirotv.com/ap/ap/top-news/apnewsbreak-new-gender-options-for-facebook-users/ndNKq/)
I checked-- it's already live, you just go under "change basic info" in your profile and select "custom" for gender. You can type whatever you want for gender, and select from she, he, or they pronouns.
Mind you I'm not out to some of my family yet, so I won't be changing mine yet, but soon. SOON.

Yay! I like my "F", but others deserve their desired letter, too! :)

I am kind of disturbed by the 'cis' options. Anyway, it should be good for non-binary types or those that want to wear their brand of trans-ness proudly. I feel the list of options is way longer than it needs to be, but if y'all are happy with it, then it's fine I guess. I am perfectly happy with an F myself, but the world doesn't revolve around me.

I chose non-binary trans* female w/ she/her pronouns... for today. Who knows what I might choose tomorrow? None of the Above wasn't an option, which I would have chosen.

Just a warning for non-US people, the gender option only works if your language is US English
Mine was UK English and it didn't work :P

They'll be rolling it out to other languages soon (including English (UK)). Until then, it only works if you're in English (US), and it's only visible to people who are also English (US).
Some definite shortcomings - some common labels missing (such as epicene), and the most obvious ones missing, since you can combine, are simply woman & man. I don't think they realise how few people out there are interested in self-identifying as cis.
It's a good first try, though, especially being able to pick'n'mix. I hope they do the same for pronouns too. I already know a number of folk who have used this as a spur to come out to friends on fb. Note that when you change your gender, it doesn't generate a notification - so you can fiddle with it until it's the closest approximation, and then tell people to go and take a look at your profile :).
Send fb some feedback about anything you'd like on there that's missing - the more they get, the better. Googling "how do I send feedback on facebook" is way quicker than trying to find the link on their site .
I'm a Non-Binary Trans* Female on fb now, and actually, that's pretty bloody close - as I've recently come to the conclusion that gender is just a game, so I'm transitioning to female, but I'm not a woman (not within the usual Terms & Conditions, at any rate).

I don't think it is so great. I'd rather just opt out of choosing a gender and leave the preferred pronoun option.

Thank you for the heads-up Unlocking Jack !
That's fantastic, I've been waiting so long to be able to convey who I am on my profile. It'll be a truer depiction of who I am, and give a more concrete message to those I know, about who I am. :-) My profile with its overt pictures of my femininity, and also masculinity will now make more sense! I doubt it'll lead to anymore understanding, but now I've stated what I am, I'll get to see who actually cares and respects that, and who prefers to ignore my identity. This will be interesting.

im not sure it depends how popular it gets and probably also depend on each country acceptence. I really doubt Russia would change there gender options for exemple =/
but its really cool even when you have to change your settings to english US, (btw it also works with english - pirate)

hi,
new here. I set mine to pangender and genderqueer. made me quite happy. And then I went on to post about it so I've come a long ways out of the closet I never really fit in and kept sneaking out of

Cool, thanks.
6 months or so ago I created a new FB page 100% as Francis a woman, F.
No mention about mtf or anything trans.
It works for me & it's great for a new life.

I'd wish that it was available in swedish too. But I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer for the chance to get a more accurate gender-description there.

As someone who identifies as trigender/androgynous and is a (MTF) pre-op who expresses themself primarily as female MOST of the time, I went with two: androgynous and transgender. Quite frankly all these terms and things I find to be restrictive and I use my "title" soley as a way to communicate with others, not so much myself.
