Title: Coming Out to Kids
Post by: JaneNicole2013 on February 16, 2014, 09:54:55 PM
Well, I'm ready to come out to my kids and have a few questions. I have an appt with my counselor on Tuesday and plan to discuss these issues with her as well.

The lineup:

First marriage: three kids (24, 22, and 21); the middle one is married, on her own, and expecting her first child in September. The oldest one (a boy) and youngest one (a girl) are still at home with their mom, who lives only a few miles from me. I have frequent contact with all three children, but mostly the youngest one, who is still in college and comes to me for writing/homework help.

Subsequent relationship: one boy, 14, who is with me every-other weekend and then some when his mother travels. He is also involved in scouts and I usually pick up scout duty.

Questions:

- Should I tell the moms first?

- Should I tell the older kids at the same time? They are really hard to corral together and I'd rather tell them individually and in my own way, but then I don't think it's fair to let them in on a secret and ask them to keep it from the others.

Thoughts/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
