Title: Weight loss to prep for HRT fat

Aware that, at least from what I've been told and read about, HRT will not physically "move" fat around your body, but rather deposit new fat in more opportune places (proper places in the face, butt, bobs, etc.) If that is not the case, I'll end here. I'm at a decently healthy weight, around 180lbs (81.6kg) at 6'3" (1.9m,) but very upset at where my fat is and isn't. I have a LOT more fat around my stomach than I would like. My butt is also saggy. I'm not sure what'll go on down there in terms of the fat redistribution (will it raise itself on it's own, or will I need to drop weight from there.)
Other than in my stomach and my butt, I have almost zero fat anywhere else. So I'd assume an overall fat burn would work out.
So, on to the real question; I'm looking at dropping 20-30 pounds in the very near future, to gain it back within a few months after starting HRT and letting it work its magic some. What are some ideas I can use, and what would be a realistic timeline for losing that amount of weight.
Unfortunately, I don't have access to a gym (not only are the gyms on campus closed for spring break right now, they cost extra to use, unlike pretty much anything else, which is included in either tuition or room and board) and it's really cold and snowy out, so I don't really feel like going outside much. Also a little irrelevant, but I have no clothes to work out in, except for some guy clothes. The cafs are also closed this week for the most part (only open for an hour breakfast lunch and dinner each, all at times when I don't normally eat) so my food consumption will decrease but so will my ability to binge eat due to depression. I also am nearing rock bottom in terms of finance, I'll try to ask dad for some more cash, not sure if he'll comply however.
Sorry if this sounds like I'm not putting any effort into anything, that I want everything to just magically happen. I know it's not realistic, but I'm trying to find a realistic way to do things, and having never known really anything about working out and weight loss (I've maintained a stable weight for the most part, and often managed to drop weight by eating 4 small meals a day and walking everywhere I need to go, except for therapy, Meijer, and the mall, as they're way out of walking distance, so I take the bus, until recently, when my depression has hit a high, and I've been eating 2 or 3 massive meals a day, I've calmed that to 2-3 smaller ones as of the last week or so) (I've also only actually exercised at a gym three different times, all in different gyms, when my dad felt that I needed to go with him) so I'm just totally lost on what to do here.

So I get that this is a really old topic, hopefully you'll find it again and read some of the advice I'm putting in here. I'm currently 6'4" and 210lbs, and have lost almost 70lbs in the last 6 months and plan on losing more. When it comes down to losing weight there's a specific formula, 30% of weight loss comes from exercise and 70% comes from diet. I'd recommend eating 4 to 5 small meals per day, each meal should be proportioned so you can hold the food in one hand, so don't be stacking your plate high with tons and tons of stuff. You should eat until you don't feel hungry anymore, and not until you feel super full. As for exercising in the winter while on a tight budget, it's a little bit tougher. I've been training for long distance running lately (I used to do half marathons two years ago but stopped due to health issues I've fixed since, and finally stopped being lazy enough to go and train for them again), and it really does wonders. Running for half of an hour burns roughly 800 calories (this number does change based off of your weight and the speed in which you run. The fast you run the more calories you burn). Fortunately I've never had to run in snow (as I live in Florida), but in high school I did a lot of long distance competitions and ended up going to different states for rowing and running. The coldest climate I've run in was a clear day in Tennessee with no snow but a lot of wind, and it was about 20 degrees without the included windchill. I ended up buying under armor spandex to wear under my clothes (I can't remember the name of the exact model or brand or whatever), and that cost me about $100, so it was pretty pricey. Fortunately I've worn them for the past two years, even just under my street clothes if it ever got cold enough (its rare in Florida but I used to travel a lot around the winter holidays) and I've run in them a few times since while running on an oddly cold night or morning, so they may be expensive but they should definitely last you. Sorry once again for replying to an old post (I'm still new so I'm not sure if that's frowned upon here), but I hope I was able to help!

Lol it's OK, I noticed it.
I don't know how but I've been dropping weight even with nor an ideal diet, and I'm now over 6 week on hormones. I wonder where the weight is coming off, I haven't lost the little bit of muscle that I had, much fast off the stomach, and am gaining breast fat. Somehow I'm down 2.5 pounds without doing much physical ac r ivory other than cleaning the crap out of this place.
As for portion control, that's something I've always done, so I guess I'm on the right track!
And excercize, this complex has an excercize room, but since it's finally summer up here I can actually do things outside. If I have the proper clothing, I have no shorts whatsoever.

Lauren- squats. They tighten your rear and your core, helping to fix both waist fat and saggy butt. Squats have done me wonders.
Also, the Weight Watchers point system really does work.
Good luck,

Not sure I need weight watchers though, my weight is actually approaching underweight; I'm currently at 156.2 pounds, at 6'3," putting my BMI at 19.5, only one point above underweight, where I spent most of my pre-teen years. I weighed 90 pounds entering 7th grade, a 5'8" 8th grade though I shot up to 6' and 140 pounds. Darn testosterone!

Especially in marching band in high school, even though I was a good 30 pounds heavier, with another 40 pound tuba on me. The thing was like a sail.

Girls, I'm curious. What show size do you both have, being so tall?
At 6'0, I sadly wear a Men's size 12, which is a Women's 13.

Cardio, cardio and cardio. You already walk so walk more. I walk for km (miles in your case) at work and on a day off its at least 90min at aprox 8miles/hr maybe more. It helps that I can't drive and hardly take public transport. This can help speed up your metabolism making pasta and ramen (generally cheap food) not as bad as people say even though they are full of starch and carbs. I also do squats but they kill my knees so I can only do them in short burst.

I ate maybe 1400 calories max. Not great, but I can't afford much in the way of food right now. With the exception of yesterday, my meal schedule has been oatmeal with coffee/tea for breakfast, ramen for lunch, pasta (with either olive oil, jarred sauce (not as of late) or one of my hommemade sauces) with vegetables for dinner. So yeah, carbs, cardio, now I should be on the weight gaining phase. When I started HRT about 2 and a half months ago, I weighed in 1t 168 pounds. Now, I doubt I weigh much more than 150 (I last weighed in at 152.3 2 weeks ago, haven't remembered to weigh since) so I've seen almost no breast growth over the last month, compared to April, when I had the cafeteria that was all you can eat, and I was surprised that I had any growth in the first month.
BTW, 8mph is pretty fast, Google Maps tends to estimate 3mph, with my legs, I get 4-5, at a normal pace. You're probably thinking KPH ;)

No that's converted 5kph. That was the distance between my place and school, first bus to leave and I could still beat it home. Google maps is an average fitness plays a big part of it and the incentive to just get there when you don't have the money to spend on bus, train or a taxi. Old habits do die hard.
With food and weight what are the prices of nuts in your area? (I know finance are not your friend right now). I drop weight to quickly and friends suggested keep mixed nuts nearby as I can't always have a break at work. It has helped stabilize the weight loss problem for me.

I think you converted backwards; 5kph = 3mph ;)
Multiply km by .62, divide miles by .62 for approximations.
For "shorter" distances (under 10 miles/ 16km round trip) I try to walk as much as possible. When going to the therapist, for example, is 13 miles round trip, and would take nearly three hours to walk that. That's when I take the bus, which I still have a fair bit of walking to do. The nearest bus stop of any use is 1.5 miles away, and fortunately the bus drops me off close to where I need to go.
I have no idea. Really any protein would be great for me, as I know I don't get enough of it. I have part of a jar of peanut butter, with no bread. Been eating out of it with a spoon.
I'm not sure what the price is for a bag/jar of mixed nuts is, but is bound to not be terrible.

I have no idea. Really any protein would be great for me, as I know I don't get enough of it. I have part of a jar of peanut butter, with no bread. Been eating out of it with a spoon.
I'm not sure what the price is for a bag/jar of mixed nuts is, but is bound to not be terrible.

Don't I feel sheepish (baaa). The sad thing is I work with numbers all day working out mental arithmetic in my head and did high level maths at school. :icon_redface:
I do know I have hit 10k/h numerous times but I was at extremely emotional and that was only an hour how long I could hold it for who knows. (Anger, desperate to get home, happiness)
Peanut Butter (drooling) very good if you need protein and want to put on weight. Beans and legumes are also good sources of protein and are usually cheaper if bought loose instead of tin. Thou most do need to be prepared first and while you can (I have and do) eat them on there own they are not as tasty sometimes

Being on the south end of 110 lbs all thru high school, with 26" waist.. at abt 5'10" til second yr of college.. I ballooned to 124 when I got married @ 26 yrs old.. Btwn our cooking and stress, work, etc.. I'm btwn 154 and 161 now.. and 32"waist guy jeans. My heaviest was 168, but cutting out 4-8 coffees and nearly all soda I dropped almost 15lbs. I'm a women's size 10 boot, 9 1/2 sneaker.. 7/8 jeans, I don't know my dress size tho. I will have to find that soon. Losing the weight was easiest cutting out the soda. I think breads, glutens will be next. Kinda sad abt my new Spiro, I LOVE bananas but knowing they're a bit fattening, really limiting them will help too.
Right.. No talk abt Wonder Women.. How do you feel abt Xena? ;) (tho, -she's- definition of an Amazon)

Usually that's after, so the fat goes to the right place.
Should I lose some weight if I'm 142 and 5'5'? D: I'm kind of an average weight

I started exercising pretty rigorously before starting HRT, I wanted to shed as much of my "male fat" as I could before starting because it gets harder after you start HRT.
1. I'm a diabetic and as a part of my care I see dieticians regularly and the have completely different charts for women/men. For the same size body/activity levels women's metabolism is about 3/4 that of a typical testosterone driven man. When you start blockers/E you will either have to eat a quarter less or exercise to compensate.
2. My logic was that I didn't want to build any upper body mass but I wanted bigger thighs, butt and slimmer waist while burning as much fat as possible, I'm also lazy so I wanted to make it as easy as possible :) Luckily these are complimentary goals because the largest muscles in our body are the legs and bum, so these muscles can burn far more energy than any other muscle with less effort and pain than any other muscle, so walking, running, cycling, anything that exercises your lower body and burns lots of calories is the best option. Also remember that your body will continue to burn calories after you stop exercising, try to exercise every day because exercising for 30 minutes every day will burn way more than exercising for for 3 1/2 hours on the weekend.
3. Watch your diet, avoid sugars, rice, pasta, potatoes, breads and all of the other carb rich foods, these are by far the biggest contributors to most peoples caloric intake. I love salads but I make a big bowl and I make them yummy, add feta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, tuna, chicken, nuts (especially peanuts), peppers, cucumber, sunflower seeds, parmesan, olives. Also keep in mind that the thing that keeps you feeling full is fiber, the higher the fiber the longer the meal will "last". When you do eat any of the carb rich foods go for the whole-wheat, unprocessed and generally the less cooked things are the better (Cooking breaks down complex carbohydrates that our body either can't process or processes partially into simpler carbohydrates that our body will gobble up). Protein is your friend because protein builds muscle, the more muscle you have the more energy you will burn even if you aren't exercising.

I've started working really hard to lose weight before HRT. I looked up some articles on how to lose muscle intentionally (never thought I'd be doing that lol). Anyway, I've ended up doing tons of cardio at the gym, no weight lifting at all. I started jogging which I've always hated but now I'm really motivated by a goal so it's amazing what I've become capable of. I'm already up to 35 minutes at 6 mph after only a few weeks. I just did my first yoga class this morning as well so I'll be working that into my routine. Diet-wise I've been cutting down a lot. I've started using celery with peanut butter as my go to snack and for deserts I found some delicious frozen juice bars that are only 60 calories each.
As for effect, it's been really good. I've been weighing in each Saturday. I'm 6'2" and started at 221lbs 3 weeks ago. This morning I weight in at 210. Although, to be fair I donated blood yesterday so that's an extra pound that doesn't really count. Still, 10 pounds in 3 weeks is not shabby. I've had to take my belt in a couple notches and will have to get a new one soon at this rate. I'm hoping to get down to 175ish by the end of the year then look into HRT.
