Title: How to approach Endo about HRT?
Post by: thevaliantx on March 04, 2014, 06:41:23 PM
Is it not true that a therapist is no longer needed in order to go on HRT?  I have asked several therapists in the Cincinnati, OH area about this, and nary a response on the matter, but they are eager to start sessions with me.  ::)  Are they following a different set of guidelines?  Are they seeing a potential cash cow with this HRT matter?

Version 7.0 of the WPATH standards of care explicitly state that therapy is not a requirement for HRT. However we are strongly urged to get it. What individual therapists do, as you pointed out, varies considerably.

If you want a therapist who follows the WPATH guidelines, you can visit their website. They have a tool that lets you find a WPATH member therapist in your area.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction.  As I have mentioned elsewhere on Susan's this is not my first go at HRT or transitioning.  I was pretty much forced to stop the last time by a family law attorney who, if you read between the lines, was trying his hardest to get me to just say that I was gay.  He didn't want to spend the time or my money on litigation over TG matters.  I had no one else to represent me at that time.  Enough about me.  :)

I can definitely see where money hungry therapists (or those not really supportive of TG), under the guise of looking out for the patients, would follow the older standards of care in order to prolong writing that letter.  I am not suggesting that all therapists are like this, but some are as evidenced here on Susan's.

Wouod anyone know where I can find a list of endo's who follow the latest wpath guidelines?
