Title: Double Mastectomy with Dr. Gary Lawton in San Antonio
Post by: nienhou2 on March 14, 2014, 04:34:51 PM
I had a consult with Dr. Lawton in San Antonio, TX earlier today. It went very well, and I felt very comfortable with him. He has a great reputation amongst the trans community here in SA, but also nationwide. Since I live right here, I figured it was the most logical decision. I've seen pictures of his work, as well as a few guys in person, and I haven't heard of anyone being unhappy with their results. He took a few measurements and said it should be "a piece of cake." His staff was very respectful and made me feel at ease. I'm 100% certain I want top surgery and want it with Dr. Lawton, so I went ahead and scheduled my surgery for May 1.  ;D Here is the pricing breakdown that they provided me:

Double Incision Mastectomy w/ Nipple Graft

Surgeon fee:$5000
OR fee:$1450
Anesthesia:$700
Surgical Vitamins & Scar Gel:$200
Lab fees:$40
Total cost of surgery:$7390

I had to pay $200 to schedule the surgery, which gets applied to the total cost. Hope this helps anyone looking for pricing or Dr info.

Cool another Lawton guy. I had surgery with him back in January. I am quite happy with my results also and know many local guys who are as well. Congrats on the surgery! You'll be very happy this summer....damn southern humidity hah.

Btw make sure you bring someone with you to your post ops until you can comfortably move your arms...that door to his reception room is a pain in the butt to open post op, it's oddly heavy/tensioned.

Congrats and good luck. I had surgery with Dr. Lawton on March 13.

Just a heads up, got a $376 labwork bill in the mail today that I didn't know to expect - I don't know if it's the same for everyone, but apparently they had to send the removed tissue off for pathology testing. You should ask about that if they forgot to mention it.

Pathology is something every surgeon in the us has to do I believe. I was told up front. Mine will probably be like $500.

Take a chance and have them send the bill to your insurance company.  I had no expectation that they would pay (since it was elective surgery), but damn if they didn't!

I filled in the insurance info in the space provided on the back of the bill I received for my blood work and the insurance covered it. I haven't yet received this second bill for pathology. When did it come for you blink? I had my surgery two months ago so I'd think I would have received it by now.

Edit: Nevermind I must have had a brain fart when I read your post the first time lol.

I never did get this second bill then. Just the first one from the blood work...or maybe it was the one for the tissue samples since it said first and second site. Hmmm...I will have to go find that bill and see what it was for. I thought it was the blood work since I had to be stuck at two different sites to get a sample. I'll have to check the dates too since I think I got it before I had the surgery, but the anesthesia messes with my short term memory so I could be wrong.

In any case my insurance paid for it, the bill should have a place on the back to fill out insurance information.
