Title: ReelMagik for POC
Post by: yaka on March 18, 2014, 02:26:59 AM
Are there any people of colour who have purchased one - and if so, did you include the "Add Enhanced Detailed Paint" or "Custom Colour Match", or were the default options ideal for your skintone? Thanks

I got the enhanced paint job with the custom color match. Although I love the realistic look and feel I am very dissapointed with the color. It is way too light for a man of color.

I also got the enhanced paint job but it was too light for my skin. If anything, go darker than what you think it will be!

I'd thought the M13 color would be perfect but it's looks like the M11 color that's online. I've emailed them with this issue and I'm waiting for a reply.

Did any of you guys order the silicone samples along with your prosthetic? I'm wondering how the ones they send out match up with their final, painted products.

I know at Philly Trans Health it was kind of startling to me how different the colors looked in person (at least two shades lighter).  At the time, we agreed that the best match for me would be an M15. From the website, I'd estimated M12 or M14 at best.

Yes I got the samples because I'd heard the colors were on the lighter side. I do agree M15 would've probably been a better match.

I wonder if it's an issue of monitor calibration or if it has to do with the original skin tone images (where the colors don't match up).

They told me it has a lot to do with how the monitor displays the colors that's why they have the color samples. I find it strange because it seems to only be an issue with the colors M10-M17. I've asked them if they could mimic the colors for the prosthetics/samples that they have on their online chart because those seem more realistic. I can post pics with the color samples later if anyone is interested.

The only 2 colours darker than me were M16 and M17, so I looked for photos of the prosthetic in those colours (they were on the 8" page) and found that helped make my decision. You can tell the silicone sample color was used as the base, but the final product looks lighter with the layers of color.

It would be good if they could make sample prosthetics of all the skintones, as it seems the swatches are not as reliable for those with darker skin.

I agree with Seb. I got the M15 and it is much lighter than it appeared on the website. It ended up working out okay for me, but going darker would probably be safer.

Would you mind posting a pic or emailing a pic? I want to order another one that's darker because I can't stand mine. I'll probably end up selling it.

I'd be happy to post a pic, but I don't know how. I'm using my phone, maybe I should try my computer?
Why do you hate yours?

Ok my email is elnharding@aol.com. I like everything except the color it matches my skin and for me that takes away the realism of it.

If anyone is willing to send me some pics as well, either with or without the sample comparison, I'd be super grateful: tochangehermind@gmail.com.

I'd be willing to send you some pics later this evening. And if I can find the samples I'll include those too.

Also, keep in mind that dick color is generally at least a shade darker than the skin on your arm.

Similar to the reason why you are supposed to test makeup out on your wrist and not the back of your hand. Different parts of the body are differently toned for skin color.

This is why I'm upset with the color I received. I initially chose a color that was 3 shades darker. And they also sent me a photo of a finish prosthetic with the color I had chosen which was perfect. My prosthetic is 3 shades lighter. The color was very important to me.

Wow I'm amazed that kind of f*** up can happen...

Especially considering you picked it to be three shades darker than your skin color.

I would definitely be going for a refund...that's just not fair. If they won't let you have a refund, tell them that you will tell other people to buy from somewhere else.

They keep blaming it on how the monitor displays the color but the samples came to be the exact color that are displayed on their website so I don't understand. On top of that these are not cheap by any means. Plus the wait time. If you don't care about the color great. But if you want a color beyond M10 don't waste your money.

I'm telling people regardless because this is ridiculous. I spent well over $800 and this issue has to be resolved. I'm waiting for them to reply back.

I really do wonder if these prosthetics makers have actually SEEN POC penises. Like, up close. In real life. And more than just one or two, actually. Enough to make a decent study of them.

I don't believe so because there's always an issue. Smh

When you pay for the samples, do you have to send them back?  If not, can you take a picture of the prosthetic next to the 3 color samples and send in email?  They can't use the "monitor" excuse if you have the prosthetic next to the samples.

Once you pay for them their yours. Hmmm never thought about that. I sent an email still waiting for a reply. What I don't understand is how the lights colors seem to come out exactly how they are displayed online.

I did remember reading one review where a lighter-skinned dude was pissed because his came out looking "like a corpse". But in general? Yeah. I've yet to find one POC who is 100% pleased with the color of their RM. Which is...terrifying. But I really do think the problem is larger than RM. I've recently received two Sinthetics models and like...the color isn't BAD, but I can't help but think that even with my limited skills I could do better. It just doesn't look like "our" skin. It's like...on the first, the color is slightly muddy and overdone, like they didn't know what to do and tried to fix things but gave up.  The second has very, very little tone variation at all, and the shading is way more reddish than it should be. Also, blue veining. Most darker guys don't have super blue veining on their cocks. The testicles are usually darker, not necessarily redder. The head isn't super pink. That's just...not how they look. I really, REALLY don't think they've looked at dark men's genitalia. Across the board.

This is a REALLY good point. I have an acquaintance that make prosthetics. He is not at the stage where I feel that I should be giving out his contact here as he is very small scale and has a day job. But I'm going to bring this up to him. If you don't mind could I quote you, as this is a bit outside of my field of experience (being white)? I wouldn't mention your name or anything, not that I know your name. LOL

Thanks,

RM replied back to me and they are willing to stain my prosthetic a darker color which will still have the translucent look at no extra cost. Im responsible for shipping which is fine with me. I think this is very considerate considering the fact that they state once a prosthetic is painted it cant be repainted. Or they will give me 10% off a new prosthetic. Im going to go with the first choice. They really do care about their customers satisfaction. And they won't alter their products to the fact that it takes away the realism of them. So this is why I trust them to stain my prosthetic. I just want to make sure it will have the detailed paint job like it does now. I would still like to see pics of the M15-M17 color is anybody has them. It would be greatly appreciated.  :)

This is so great! I'm wondering what their staining technique is like...

My RM has been shipped and is expected to be delivered to me Monday. As for staining, they apply thin layers of a single color translucent wash to achieve the darker skin tone while preserving the enhanced details. This will take it a shade or two darker. I also hope that the head isn't as pink because it'll be a darker color now.

My reelmagik came and I am very pleased with the staining. Its 2-3 shades darker like they stated. Would've liked it to be darker but the color is 10x better.

Hi I have no clue if I'm going about this the wrong way but im lookong for any help I can get. I'm looking into purchasing from Reelmagik but the colors have me stumped. I don't want to buy the swatches before i get some knowledge from the community on their personal experiences. Anything helps thanks in advance.

The colors on the site and the swatches are darker than the product you receive in my experience. I was very disappointed in how light my STP was.
