Title: Bodybuilding competion experiences
Post by: Hurgo on March 22, 2014, 11:55:26 AM
Hi guys,

I'm into bodybuilding for 3.5 years now and the idea of competiting in the IFBB men's physique category in few years is doing its way in my head.
I was wondering If anyone there had any experience with competition, doping tests while on T, etc....

For thoose one who are not familiar with bodybuilding, here's an illustation of men's physique category:

I compete in ITF Taekwon-do that follows the same anti doping procedures as the Olympics. You just need letters and a record of blood test results proving you're within normal ranges. The longer you've been on T the better because you have more consistent results.  For me this isn't a concern at present because I've never had above normal ranges but if that's happened to you, it could be a concern. Then if you are selected to be tested (if it's not everyone) it's just processed the same any guy is.

The only issue would be with the competition. For me I don't need to worry about being outed at a competition because it's dealt with at a higher level and not by those running the competition itself. My letters and results all go through an agency separate to the competition organisers. But depending on what the procedure is for your competition, it's very possible that for these events, more people directly involved with the actual competition will know and it could have an impact if a judge knows, not to mention other competitors finding out. It could become like what happens for transwomen in sports where they're deemed to have an advantage. If competitors know you're trans and take T, most are ignorant to that and could just kick up a fuss that it's not fair that you're allowed to inject a substance they can't.

You'd have to specifically find out competition and anti doping protocols for specific competitions you want to enter. As far as I know there's no one governing body for these competitions. Then you'll have to judge for yourself where would be best to compete. If you're not worried about being outed or dealing with ignorance that's perhaps not a concern for you. If you are worried, you're going to have to do a lot of competition research in advance. The easiest way to judge this without outting yourself might be in taking on an alias and asking questions with regards to being treated for hypogonadism as a cis-male.
