I can't stand the way some people smile at me. Its usually women that do it but sometimes guys do it too. I hate it most when couples do it.
Its that smile when they realize I'm trans. Like I'll be passing just fine and then all of the sudden their eyes will get all wide for a second and they'll give me this coy little smile like "I know what you are"
Its really getting old. I just want to be taken seriously and whenever that happens I feel like I'm not.
Its like a reminder that I'm trans and I'm not passing all the time and I'm so sick of thinking about those things.
Sorry just needed to vent.

I mean if I were gay it would be different. They'd smile at me like "I know you're gay ;)" and I'd smile back because I'd be gay and proud.
That's what people don't understand. Being trans isn't something I'm all out and proud about.
Why couldn't I just have been gay you know!? That would've been so much easier!
OK I'm done whining. I'm feeling better. Times like these are not happening very much anymore. That's a good thing :). I love being a girl!! Wouldn't go back for anything.

Sometimes it's fun to cross my eyes and make a funny face when people look at me funny. Although now I think that last guy was kind of drunk and just wanted to do me.

I remember those smirks. I hated them. I'm passing better, so they've largely gone away. I've been tempted on occasion to go up to them and ask them what they're seeing that is making them smirk.

It's never fun to feel outed but you can't say for sure why they're smiling at you, and at least they are smiling! Does it only happen with a handful of people or more frequently? If only every now and then I wouldn't worry, if frequently do you feel there might be some aspect of your presentation you could alter? Sometimes it's just a matter of clothes/shoes, makeup and/or hair. Where does it usually happen? I'd wager it's more likely to happen in nightclubs and night life areas just because people probably have more interaction with trans* people there.
