Title: So my uni is running a transgender seminar tomorrow...
Post by: jaybutterfly on March 30, 2014, 02:56:51 PM
I'm going along to it because Ive been invited by the psychology department and to be honest... I'm tempted to use it as a means of going somewhere public in my 'behind closed doors' clothes. Like, really tempted. It's not like I could get any transphobic comments considering the lecturer hosting it is pro gay, pro trans and really serious about it too. She's helping me look for local support groups and find ways to be more comfortable.

I'm not sure if Im nervous or excited for the idea

I would say both are appropriate! I know it was for me. The first time I made my public debut it was for Therapy. It was not close by either as it was a one hour drive each way. Then I had to walk a good distance as my Therapist is at Oklahoma State University (GO POKES) in the Psychology Department. I was not even part time then and when I got home went full time immediately. Being and presenting as the real you is very highly addictive, so be warned! ;D

You should do just fine so enjoy it and go for it! :)

We you could choose to bring a bag with cloths just in case. Also, an androgynous look could be a route.

That a pretty awesome way to do it. Just remember the genie doesn't go back in the bottle. I disclosed to everyone at once(28 letters to all the best gossips to family and friends.) Make a great go of it, though I have to say first times in public I was hardly ready for making speeches.
