Title: Help. Reconstructive surgery from complications
Post by: Violet-The-First on March 31, 2014, 08:55:01 PM
Ok so I have a slew of complications with my SRS, because of this I wasn't able to start dilating till several week post op. Now i'm four months post op and only have one to two inches depth. Has anyone had additional surgery to get more depth. I am a little scared to go back under the knife and am planning on getting a second oppioun after I see my surgeon in a few weeks. Has anyone had success with addition surgery? With the amount of scare tissue in my vaginal cavity dilating has done almost nothing with great amounts of pain. I want a vagina that isn't just for show, one I can actually use. To be honest I'm more scared this time around then when I first went in, having a vagina is amazing and has brought me so much joy but every time I think about going back to the hospital I feel so helpless. I feel like I can't catch a break. These past four months have been very difficult I just hope things start getting easier soon.

Love and blessings.

Sorry to read about your troubles , I wish I could be of some help but I don't have anything to offer. Hopefully someone who has experience can reply here and be of service, does your surgeon have a guaranty? if you are in the states I have heard that McGinn is really good at revisions, but this is all by ear and haven't had actual contach with anyone who had here perform revisions. Hang in there! while I didn't have complications with my grs surgery , another surgery I had (non trans related) didn't do as I wished it would have, so I can understand the fear of going back underthe knife if a previous attempt didn't turn out as was hoped.

I am a little confused by what you are describing as the real complication here.  As Calico said, several of the U.S. surgeons do very good repair and revision surgery, but for the sake of your cash supply, the original surgeon should be standing by their work and be able to help you.  Without knowing what has really happened though I cannot even guess what type of surgery would be required.  It could be as simple as cleaning out scar tissue on an outpatient basis, or revision surgery as intensive as the original.

did the original Dr. state your depth.  If the vag  lining  is damaged or has failed you can go for a colon vaginoplasty.  it is a complex op as you probably know and used as a last resort. I have my opinion about SRS.
you will have to call around to get advise and perhaps find a better surgeon. If the problems was from bad surgery.
What does your original surgeon have to say about your predicament. I hope it is more than hand holding BS. Thankfully there are Drs who do revisions. You are not fighting this alone.
