Title: Went to see a movie with a male friend this evening...
Post by: Ms Grace on April 07, 2014, 07:53:39 AM
...afterwards he insisted on walking me to the train station even though it was well out of the way his nearest tram stop. I've known him for almost 15 years and we have always parted ways after a movie at his team stop, but now he seems to feel protective of me (he said as much). It was a nice, considerate gesture - I didn't feel unsafe walking to the station (and I am taller than him!) but yes I know I need to be more careful of my safety now I'm presenting as female.

Anyone else find guys you've known pre-transition treat you differently post-transition?

Ha! No! I don't think our friendship is going to take that kind of turn now I'm in a dress either! ;)

Grace, you've got a good friend there - he's a real gent and keeper. =)

So you were in Melbourne over the weekend? (seeing you mentioned trams) and skipped supernova?

Nope, the Sydney tram, I know they call it the "light rail" but I figured "tram" would make more sense to more people... ;)

Oh, that thing! *lol*
I keep forgetting that thing exists - it only ever threatens to run me over when I'm around Paddy's markets. :)

My best friend (since childhood) did the same (though he always was protective of me, but not that protective). He even said I need to text him when I got home ^^

I don't know if I have any say here, but I'm from the midwestern US and it we're pretty polite out here. That means holding doors open, sirs and ma'ams, and in this case, being protective of the ladies because "something could happen."

My East coast friends usually tell me about the people in their day who go "Watch where you're goin' pal" or "Hey, redhead, can you hand me that?" and it's like a whole 'nother planet to me.

I felt like telling him not to be silly, that I could look after myself - but then I remembered the instance of a woman down in Melbourne who likewise refused a male colleague's offer to walk her home from the pub, she unfortunately encountered a sociopath, was raped and murdered and her body buried several miles away. While I feel safe I still need to remember I'm more likely to get hassled for being female, even more so for being trans* if they read me.

So yeah, my friend wants to be protective? I'll graciously accept.

Aw, that's wonderful. And yeah, my friends were quite protective of me especially early in transition. It's great!

Most that know either don't want to know me anymore, or try to grab my breasts when they see me out somewhere, you know, just to see how they're doing......... *smh*

I'm still in the middle of transitioning, so I'm not really experienced enough to say much.  However, one of my best friends has always seen and treated me like a girl even before my transition.  So, I haven't noticed much change in how he acted or behaved with me prior to me starting my transition.  I will say, though, that some men treat and look at me differently in various ways.  I was never a guys guy, but I'm pickig up subtle changes with my interactions and this is just from being andro.

Yeah I am kinda bracing myself for my guy friends to start acting a little twitchy around me - I totally plan on being smokin' hot.  (Chuckle).

  If only.

But it must be tricky for them to wrap their heads around.  I just hope I get a few gentlemen like yours Grace!

I wish my kitchen was infested with bunnies or wallabies-  one drawback of sydney is the damn roaches.

But yeah lots of sydney trans.   And only one sydney tram.

Ha! Actually there are quite a few trans guys in Sydney but they don't seem to visit Susan's as far as I know.

Oh the roaches are not so bad I had cane toads. Least roaches don't endanger your pets.

So Ms Grace what movie are we looking forward to more Guardians of the Galaxy or The Amazing Spider Man 2

Despite being a hardcore Marvel reader during most of the 1980s I seem to have missed the Guardians altogether (a quick look at wikipedia would suggest they weren't featured in any comics during that decade). That said it looks like it could be good, a bit hard to tell from the current trailer, but I'm keen to see how it fits into the wider Marvel cinematic universe. I have heard rumour of a certain bad guy making an appearance which would be exciting. The first Andrew Garfield Spidey was fun but didn't wow me too much but this one looks like it will be action packed (Rhino looks way cool!) but I'm concerned that there will be too many villains. On the balance, I'm keen to see both of them but for different reasons! You?

Spidey. Unfortunately the fact it has electro in it makes me cautious of seeing it in the theaters

Edit: can not handle bright lights well being in the dark cinema will make it worse
