Title: Went to my first transgender group last night...

Well the title says it all. Have to say even though I was a bit older then most the folks there I had a wonderful time. The group was well organized and each week they attempt to cover a certain topic. Over all I had a blast and was received very well I think. The great thing is I made some new friends that I can relate to, not to mention learned a few things in the process also. I have to admit I was a little nervous at first but after about five or ten minutes I felt right at home. Anyway, just thought I'd share...

Isn't hanging with people who get it a gas! In May there will be trans celebration in Port Angeles WA. They even let old girls like me come and celebrate. Kind of spendy, but you can test out your new smile.

Thanks everyone... Yes it was fun for sure. Hopefully I can find some friends that can help we a little with makeup and what not... That is a practice thing and I need plenty of it... LOL... Next week it a social group so I hope to meet more people there. Doing the pot luck thing... Might have to show off my cooking skills a little. ;D ;D ;D

I would absolutely adore going to a convention such as that... Probably not this year, but perhaps next... Money is a little tight right now.

It's great that you have made new friends. It also really helps to meet people who are in the same boat.
I went to my first event a couple weeks ago and it really changed how I look at things. Now I will (on a really limited basis) go out as Erin and interact with a few people. My therapist says I "pass" and it is hard to read what that may mean (I am my own worst critic) so I take it as her being just really sweet about it.
But, go for it! All of this takes practice, and it comes hard for us more "seasoned" transitioners.

Erin,
Once you let go of trying to be perfect, and trying to fool anyone, your authentic self will shine through and whether you pass or are even acknowledged becomes much less important. As a "seasoned" person, I am much less likely to have anyone care, much less object to how I present myself as the kids. I don't have to impress them, and I don't need their approval as much. I just love the freedom that finally being me, without a persona, without a screen provides. It is addicting.
Veronica,
They have scholarships. And I'll have my airstream if you need a place to crash. And no I'm not trying to pick you up.

That sounds great! ;D The only GLBT groups I've attended are coming out groups. I did get confused for a FtM by a few people, which was kind of cool to be honest. Actually, I went to a few trans groups a few years back, but they really didn't do anything for me.

Ha ha... The thought didn't even cross my mind sweetie... LOL... But I think I am going to wait till next years when I have lost a little more weight. Right now I have ape in a dress syndrome going on... LOL... Beside's I don't have a thing to wear either. For an event such as that I would want the proper cloths for sure... Let see? How many suit cases do I own??? Hmmmm?
That said, keep me in mind for next year for sure... Sounds like we could have a blast!!!

Thank you shiney... I am looking forward to the next one as it is a pot luck type of social event, and this girl has got skills in the kitchen... (Among other things, Grin) I am looking to show off a little bit... Wish I was totally out, as I'd give Betty Crocker a run for her money... LOL

Ha ha... Well maybe a cookbook is in the future... ;D ;D ;D Let's see, some of my favorites are Italian dishes but those are off the table at the moment as I could throw my diet right out the window. I use a lot of garlic and red wine, and my cream sauce is to die for, especially with scallops and squid ink pasta. Side note: Some of the wine actually makes it into the dishes... ;)
I also make killer omelettes and my Mexican food while I am still perfecting it is pretty good, especially my enchiladas. And of course good o'l american food also. I was born in Iowa, so those Midwest roots come out. Now french food still needs a little work, along with my baking skills, but I love hanging out in the kitchen and trying new things.

Hi Veronica,
Congrats! It's a great experience to meet others. For me the main thing was just being in a roomful of people where my identity was normal. Talk about a weight off.
I have spoken with one other person that attended Esprit one year, and they swore by it. Again, not so much the classes that were provided, but the inclusive feel where you live amongst other trans people for a while. She said it felt like "trying on" her new life for a bit, where she was a woman and everyone accepted her as such. It sounded fantastic.

Jesse,
Yes it was a big weight off my shoulders for sure... As to the Esprit, It does indeed sound like a hoot for sure. I think I may take Julie up on her offer next year if the invitation is still available... And by that time I will be much further along in my transition.

Hey girls, I may be thin but love to cook too, and nobody can touch my Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, lol! Seriously I do love to cook. And I too have to watch the Italian food on my girlish figure. It's soooooo good though.
While on vacation I went to the Lake Fork LBGT Pride Fest in Lake Fork Fl. You girls are right it was so nice meeting other people that get it. Though we Transgender women were in the minority there were still enough of us there to get together and have fun. There was 3 live bands and overall it was a very good time. I shot some video on my cell of it but can't get it off of it for some reason, lol! Anyway it was great meeting other girls who understood.

My weight is from one depression, and two medical issues I have had for the last seven years which are finally getting better. But your metabolism will slow down with age. I was at 180 till I hit 36 years old and from there shot up to 337 at my highest weight. Thankfully I am not that now but my goal weight is 170 and and have a little under 90 lbs, to lose before I get there. With totally cutting carbs out of my diet and eating much smaller portions I am dropping about 3 to 5 lbs a week at the moment.

I'm sad to hear your depression, it's pretty common around hear but it gets better day by day :) Glad to hear the medical issues are improving too :)
Your making nice steady progress Veronica, you'll get there!!! keep it up :D

Though my aircraft accident in 91 cut down on my physical lifestyle a bit, and my age have made me have to watch my portions now so as not to overdo it cause I can't exercise like I used to. But basically, up until my accident I could eat what I wanted as much as I wanted and never gain a pound. Afterwards though, If I didn't watch I could gain weight easily. I'm 5-5 and 117 now, but if I don't watch my caloric intake I can easily gain weight. I'm trying to get back to 115 now. :icon_flower:

My medical stuff wasn't caused by an accident, but more my previous career. I worked on golf courses working on the high tech. lawn mowers specializing in the cutting units which can weigh as much as 300 lbs. So here I am after three back surgeries and two new hips. I'm 5'11" so even now I hold my weight reasonably well just would like a little less in front and more in the rear end so to speak... I have no ass... ;D ;D ;D
Pretty sure after I start HRT that will hopefully change. Never the less want to lose the gut first and get back down to my proper height to weight ratio which is 170 lbs. In the mean time being a little fat doesn't really bother me to much as long as I am making forward progress. Also my overall heath is improving due to the weight loss so it is a win win situation for me.

oh you are preaching to the choir here!
Movies and tv shows have got me through soo much. I just shut myself in and dissolve into another reality. Been there avoiding life for a few years now. I'm slowly pushing myself back into the real world but it's a hard habit to break :P
Never played to many games, don't know if they'd help or hinder hahaha
