Where could I find a psychiatrist that deals with people who are transgender and have severe anxiety and depression in southern Maryland or close to southern Md.

Try http://psychologytoday.com/
Be sure to get references. Psychiatrists reach right for the prescription pad. If you actually want therapy call therapists and psychologists. If they think you need meds they'll get you to the right person.
Hope you feel better,
Dee

Wow.. What a rank generalisation.. I see a psychiatrist and have since I came out.. Not once has he tried to force drugs on me.. Hell, I think I've only ever seen his prescription pad twice..

I've only ever met one psychiatrist who actually performed therapy. Economically it's not feasible. They pay so highly for insurance and have to see a lot of patients. Most of the ones I know see their clients for fifteen minutes or so once per month or every two weeks. It's a generalization, yes, but that's because it's the norm. Psychologists and therapists often work in conjunction with psychiatrists as a team. If your psychiatrist is dedicated enough to take 45 minutes or an hour to do therapy that's wonderful, but it's not the norm, at least in the US.
