Title: If And When To Tell Casual Acquaintances--->Need Your Opinions Please

First, the post I made about the most difficult part of transition has really helped me get some things straightened out in my head. I appreciate the feedback. I have another subject I'd like to get your opinions on...if and when to tell casual acquaintances.
I'm talking about people that you might talk to three or four times a year (old high school/college friends, old work people, distant relatives, people who send you holiday cards, those kind of people) but that you aren't terribly close to. Sarah and I were having this conversation last night over dinner and I think it's a little puzzling.
So, let's say I'm on hormones for 6 months, just started RLE and I'm living as Meghan. Everyone who sees me every day knows me as Meghan, my voicemail, mail, etc. is coming to Meghan. Anyone who would call me would have Meghan answer the phone, etc. etc. So how do I handle the people who just call me up, my casual acquaintances, and want to talk to the old male me? I'm not a big believer in letters but maybe a letter would be right for these people.
I've heard people have the opinion that you really don't need to tell anyone outside of work and close friends and family, but I've always wondered how you deal with the others. Do you just kind of let them find out when they find out? This is a little confusing for me, but so many of you have dealt with this I'm sure.
I'd love to hear your thoughts, thanks, Meghan

I've told the core people (those I care most for and I see most often) and not bothered with the rest, they'll find out when they decide to contact me, or me them. Lately, two of my aunts which I normally see only 2-3 times a year, found out at my parents 40th wedding anniversary party; I told them when they were invited.
