Title: Poll Would you like/use a site like hot or not, exclusively trans ie pass or not
Post by: Stephanie G on April 17, 2014, 03:13:57 PM
Hello, I was thinking the other day and realized that I wasnt sure if this has been done. I also realized its hard to get truthful opinions regarding how well one looks because people tend to not want to hurt the other persons feelings. So anyways I was thinking about a site like this to get a unbiased opinion for those that want it. Thoughts opinions? Thanks in advance :)

There is actually a group on Facebook called "Do I Pass?". I don't think it would be necessary to create a whole forum just for one thing.

Was just an idea, figured you could put up audio clips and/or pictures. Be able to put in a spectrum of different options customizable to each indivual. Kinda be like a universal place where you can get a true opinion and be able to give true opinions without having to worry about feelings so much.

If it was open to CIS voters, yes. Otherwise, no.

Ranking people on a scale of 1-10 feels too high school for me. Sorry, not going to go there.

Besides, what constructive feedback is someone going to get from a ranking? It's all subjective and in the end meaningless.

I can see why some people would like it, but my view on it is people KNOW if they pass or don't pass by the way that society treats them. If most people call you "sir" you pass as male. If most people call you "ma'am" you pass as female.

In person there's still a danger of being gendered under forced false pretenses such as by wearing a dress, lipstick and carrying a purse.

Online the politeness disappears.

I would much rather have a site, trans or not. Where pictures of trans and cis photos were up, and people voted on which was which. To me, if you do a pass or not site, it would become "pretty or not" if cis people voted, and "everyone passes" if transpeople voted.

I'd like to see something where there were photos/clips/whatever and the voter was asked to choose male - andro - female.  I feel with passing, particularly on the "Do I pass?" threads here, that because we know what people are it influences how we see them, or what we tell them in regards to their passing.  If we don't know who people are and how they're looking to be read then it's going to be a whole lot more honest.

I see a site like that as just too much bait for people who fetishize us. My point being, it'd be easily abused and we, in turn, would be abused. Demeaned to objects.

Wouldn't surprise me if the "before and after" threads here have some regular visitors of that type. And, I'm on/been on that thread.

ICK!

I actually like the sound of that like
-female           -androgynous         -male
And have it on a scale from female to male

That way its all from a common pool and like you said you really dont know for the most part.

Have to think about that might be a good idea for a site. Not sure if its worth taking the time to build it though.

I think the threads we have here are sufficient for a guideline, but the only true gauge of passability is living in the real world. Most of the time you can't pick and choose your best lighting, angles, or even the situations you find yourself in. And it isn't even about acceptance or not, because there are always going to be people who, if they know you weren't born female, will not only treat you differently, they'll make sure everyone else knows you're transsexual and influence them to treat you wrong too, if they can. I have a close TS friend who is model beautiful, with a feminine voice and demeanor, who gets clocked nearly every day. The people who clock her, for whatever reason, are both mean spirited and gossips. They've made this beautiful woman's life absolutely miserable, and it's in a town supposed to be 'trans-friendly' but it's not. I think the most informative and best thread on Susan's Place is "The Before And After" thread, because it can show the newest girls, some without any hope they'll ever have the chance of having a normal life, that other girls have made even bigger steps than they'll have to and that gives them hope they never had. Some of the Before and After photos are simply astonishing. Hugs, Mira
