AGAINST ANDROGYNY
Published: January 1, 1995
EILEEN T. BROWN Williamsville, N.Y.
Androgyny. One of the more popular buzzwords of the 1980's (About Men: "Against Androgyny," Dec. 11). In questioning its value as a panacea for couples in troubled relationships, Michael Norman sounds a reasonable note of caution. Traditional masculine and feminine variations add spice to the stew. In suggesting, however, that androgyny may be responsible for the dissolution of marriages when "disaffected" wives "simply become bored" with their androgynous (read monotonous) husbands, he goes too far.

I have noticed that, around here (a University town), among a certain highly educated class, that the husband and wife sometimes begin to sort of blend into mutual androgyny and become mellow and content.
some stews are too spicy for some digestive tracks.

I think an androgyne with strong androgynous feelings, if paired up with a strong cisgendered person only attracted to cisgendered persons, would not work in the long run. Because a very basic and fundamental identity that would affect the group dynamic. In such cases I can see it causing problems.
The Idea that androgyny is innately boring I think is very much false. Only if the person exploring androgyny is boring. Rather if the person picks up and uses the Spices of both genders that feel good to the androgyne, that one could spice up intimacy with a little salt as well as pepper.
This article assumes that an androgynous person cannot be assertive, aggressive, seductive, passive, flirtatious, play games, and present themselves attractively. From my own experience I believe this false.
After hearing some cisgender discriptions of intimacy, I find what they do boring and monotonous compared to what I do.
