Title: A few questions

I have a few questions about HRT, because I'm considering it within the next few months if possible.
To get on hormones do I just need a letter of recommendation, or do I need something else as well?
Can a psychiatrist write the recommendation or do they have to be a specialist in GID?
Will any endocrinologist do for getting on HRT, or is there something I should look for in a doctor?
What should I expect to have to pay for prescription hormones( atleast estrogen and an anti-androgen) without medical insurance?
I only get a limited amount of money from the state for my disability(social anxiety), my psychiatrist is trying to help me get a little more from the state though. I wanted to know if I can actually even afford HRT at this time, before I try to get a letter of recommendation from my psychiatrist (If she can). If I can't afford this right now, I'll just have to wait, as much as I don't want to wait anymore.

What the hormones cost would depend on how much you take, what kind you take, and where you buy them. I did some research and found it is possible to get a months worth for around $75 at Costco, but that also depends on what you are prescribed, it could be more or less. I've heard that the hormones can cost less at Sam's Club and I think Walmart, but I don't know if that is true or not, I think the cost was under $40/$50 for a months worth. Sometimes you can also get a discount if you buy more than a months worth at a time. Do you have any health insurance? I know of some people who are on state disabilty and also get health insurance and they sometimes get some or all of their hormones covered.

I'm working on seeing if I can get some kind of medical coverage. $75 for a months worth doesn't sound that bad if I can't get insurance. That puts my mind at ease a bit. It would be nice if I could get at least part of the cost covered.

If you're doing injections, you can get almost a year's worth of estradiol from Strohecker's Pharmacy for $40.95 (including shipping) with no insurance. I don't think it gets any cheaper than that.

I'm probably not going to try injections (I don't like getting shots unless I have to) unless pills don't work. Thanks anyways.
It's going to be a few months until I can even get on HRT, with all the hoops I have to jump through just to get a recommendation.
