Hey everyone,
I live in California and I just found out that I am eligible for health insurance coverage through Medi-Cal thanks to the Affordable Care Act. I have been looking and looking but I can't find any online resources explaining if/what transition related surgeries I might be able to get covered. Is this even possible? Are there even surgeons out there that accept Medi-Cal for top surgery?
I remember reading an article a while back that said Medi-Cal policies were changing to include some transition related surgeries but I can't find the link anymore and it's probably outdated at this point.
Any help would be awesome!

I think you will find this informative. Basically CA regards exclusions to trans care to be illegal.

This is a new law, so you might have to work pretty hard to find the legalese on it. You might have to get in contact with someone at Medi-Cal, and you'll need to vet top surgeons one at a time. I have heard that some don't do insurance at all, but I wouldn't know. I paid for my surgery out of pocket.
Be prepared to jump through a lot of hoops and take quite a bit of time to reach your goal. But I think it's worth it if you don't have to shell out thousands and thousands of dollars.
