A little bit about me : I'm 20 years old and I started studying education this year, for grades four to seven and I'm focusing on maths and science. I started going full time on 3 february 2014 and I've been pretty happy lately.

I love reading, espescially Dean Koontz books but lately I read just about anything. I like playing pc games but I mostly play sims and I can't wait for sims 4 to come out.

My first appointment with my endo is next month so hopefully I can get hormones soon. I also want to get GRS and FFS if I can ever afford it.

I woul looove to get voice feminization surgery and that's actually how I stumbled upon this website. I was searching "yeson voice center" and saw Jenny's topic about how she went to Korea and got VFS there at Yeson Voice Center.

I would like to make friends on here as there doesn't seem to be many transsexuals where I live. I joined a LGBT society at university which rocks, but I'm the only transsexul there.

I'm just glad I'm in a happy place right now. Now that I can be ME 99% of the time, I feel free. sure I don't have breasts yet and my hair isn't very long and my voice ,let's not go there.

The feeling I get when I meet new people and they call me Melanie is just so awesome. Sometimes people refer to me as "he" but I suspect that's mainly because of my voice which I haven't really bothered to feminize so I can't blame them. Voice training just seems so difficult and like you have to think about it the whole time and that seems unnatural to me. I already have fake boobs, fake hair (wig) and I have to shave my beard every day. I don't want to deal with something else that doesn't come naturally.

Hi Melanie, welcome to Susan's.

Welcome and power to you girl!

We are always here in case you feel like sharing or just want to chat, you sound like you got all your ducks in a row and everything screwed on straight (some pun intended).

Before having surgery for your voice I highly recommend you try voice training, see Deep Stealth for Videos and Tutorials. In many cases you can train your voice in less time than the recovery from surgery and it's a lot less risky. Then again some girls can't reach A3 so they have no choice but if you can and are willing to put in some time I highly recommend it.

Thanks LordKAT , V M and Antonia :D.  Antonia, I don't think I'll be able to afford VFS any time soon so I will have to start working on my voice, but I am sooo darn lazy plus I feel like an idiot when I have to make those high pitched sounds and my family can hear me.

What is A3? A certain pitch? My therapist says I don't need to work on my voice and that I sound like a woman, but that's because I talk softly when speaking to him for some reason and I don't speak that softly around other people.

Also, because I'm studying to become a teacher, we do a looot of orals in front of a class of our peers for assesment so I really had no chance of people never finding out I'm trans because you have to speak loudly and clearly to get good marks.

Plus a lot of the people I'm studying with were in high school with me so there really was never a chance of me blending in, but I knew that and I've accepted it. I'm hoping I can move somewhere else when I'm done studying so no one will know me. I'd love to move to America or New Zealand (I live in South Africa at the moment)

Hi Melanie,

I think we are all lazy when it comes to voice training, try doing it whenever you have a spare moment, when I drive somewhere I practise in the car or if I'm home alone around the house. A3 is a note that is 220hz, essentially it's the lowest note that is definitively considered female, that does note mean there aren't many girls that speak in lower registers but if you want 100% female gendering on the phone you need A3 on higher. As far as how I talk, someone here on the forums mentioned that she now speaks to the whole world the same way she used to speak to her girlfriend, I borrowed that idea and it seems to work.

wow you are so young ! :) i started HRT when I was around your age (19-20), i am 35 now :P

Thank you Diana  ;D I know I'm quite lucky with my genetics, but I still feel insequre about my face sometimes and think I look like an ugly girl, so I really appreciate all the compliments you girls are showering upon me :icon_redface:

Haha yea I'm not expecting any voice clips or anything cause gosh, I know how hard that would be to do. But voice is the thing I personally worry about the most currently, I'm pretty good with everything else. But with the voice I don't want it to be something I have to put on all the time, it has to be natural and I'd be really grateful to hear what experiences you go through with the voice topic.

i'm pretty good on my voice. i can make myself sound like a girl (bordering 189-220 hertz) or a normal 21 year old guy (160  below in hertz). xD just having trouble on whether or not i would look like i can pass. my hair is growing to slow so i might have to wear a wig -.- ugh! the horror! again, i envy you melanie!

I don't know what the frequency of my voice is when I speak normally. How will I be able to find that out? I think my voice must be quite low because I sang bass in the choir when I was in high school. I don't think it's normally that low, but I can go very low if i want to.

How did you get your voice there :icon_dizzy: was it hard work or did it come easily? And I've been wearing wigs since the day I've gone full time ;) :D it's not that bad , but it hurts my head sometimes and when the wind blows , I just want to hide somewhere because it makes the wig a big mess of tangles >:(. My mom says I should't be wearing a wig any more and that my hair is long enough but I think I'll lokk like a boy if I don't wear it so I'm too scared to take it off. Maybe I sould post a picture and you guys can tell me if I should rather keep on wearing the wig. I know exactly what you mean :icon_yes: I also feel like I have everything else passing just fine most of the time. But I should stop being so lazy and start working on my voice, I'm sure I'll pass so much better when meeting new people, because at the moment I hardly say anything when I meet new people.

If it helps at all, I personally think u should just do whatever makes u feel comfortable. If u really like wigs, then why would u have to take it off. Keep using them if it makes u happy. I'm gonna start using them as soon as I can get to town some time to the wig shop (when it's actually open. Grrr. Always miss it). And reason for that is cuz my hair sadly is not long at all since my dad doesn't allow me to grow it. But then that's the other side. If u let your hair grow to your satisfaction, then perhaps u won't need a wig anymore. Maybe then u could stop wearing them. But even at that point, u can still wear them if u really want to. It's a great way to experiment with different hair styles, without actually changing your style. Then that way maybe you'll find something u like, and can change your real hair to that.
But in all, just do whatever makes u comfortable. Just like your signature says, u should be yourself because those who don't accept u aren't important, and those who are important accept you:)

it wasnt hard to get my voice up an octave. i have like half the total t levels of a normal male my age so knowing that was a bonus xD my voice is still pretty androgynous but i can raise or lower my octave at will xD

But is it not annoying that you have to put on a voice? Or after speaking in your female voice more often does it become your natural voice if that makes sense? Like I don't want to have to put on a voice all the time, It's important I think that eventually it'll come naturally and you won't have to think about what voice ya using before you speak.

Blue, you worry to much hun xD if you speak the voice or at least practice everyday, it'll come natural  :laugh:
