Susan's Place Transgender Resources

So mostly I'm just a little nervous about how to ask. I just moved to Colorado and I'm right to get my medical transition going. When I lived in CA every planned parenthood within hours stated on their website that they didn't treat transgendered clients. The one by where I live does and from what I've read from other guys in the past, they do informed consent. So I want to ask if I can make an appointment to start the process of getting on hormones with informed consent. Do I just call and ask like that?

I'd call, say you're transgender and would like to know if they provide hormones for transgender patients. Some places provide only gynecological care. Ask what they require from a patient before hormones. I'm not sure if they use informed consent.

I used this site to find a doctor near me, but it is more directed at trans women services (FFS and such). Also this is a good resource for any people in the Denver area as they are donation funded (donate if you can, but if you can't that's ok too).

I live in Colorado. My friend goes to PP for his T. Just make an appointment and let them know what it's for. Colorado is really great about having resources available for transgender people, especially in Denver. I used to live in Texas, and it spins my head to think about if I had to transition there instead of here. If you're near Denver, there's also a Transman/Transmasculine support group that meets at the GLBT Center in downtown Denver every Friday night from 6:30-8 pm, and SOFFA's meet the first Friday of each month, same time. There's an abundance of guys there with incredibly valuable information that helped and continues to help me through my transition. If you go, see either Jules or Rafi. They're awesome and they love helping out members of the TG/TS community. :)

I'm in Fort Collins. I went to the PP and they don't offer hormones. I need to ask around some more.

That's strange. I suppose only the Denver ones do. Sorry bout that.

Okay so I'm calling the one in Denver that offers hormones tomorrow morning. I'm hoping to make an appointment for this week when my roommate will be driving down there anyways. Does anyone know how many appointments I will need to go to before I get on T? I suppose I'm just going to ask that in the morning. I'm actually hoping I can get my first shot that day but.. I don't know if I'd be that lucky.

If I may ask, which one in Denver offers hormones?  I'm in Aurora, and I go to the one near me for depo provera.  It would be nice to hear what your experience is with them.

I haven't gone to them yet. My friend just started his shots two weeks ago. Everything I have heard from him is good though. Great service and they're really nice down there. I'm about to start services with them after my top surgery on June 10th.

According to the site, you'll need to call and make an appointment and they'll need "Before your visit, we need a letter from your current mental health provider who knows your personal history. We also need copies of your medical records." I think it's the T letter they want, but when you call you can ask for further details.

Yea I called and they said to get a therapists letter if I could but if I couldn't that would be okay. They said it would likely be at least a month before I can actually start T but I'm hoping it goes quicker than that. My appointment is Wednesday next week.

That sounds really positive. A month is not bad at all. I had a supportive therapist and doctor and it still took me at least a year to get a letter and hormones, mostly because nobody wanted to be on paper as the one who authorized it. Once I got my letter I was asked not to tell anyone where I got it, and I was told my T-prescriber only took my case as "a favor" to the doctor who referred me.

Sorry dude, that sounds like an awful experience to go through. They shouldn't have been so shady about it like there's something wrong with it. I hope in the future they pull their heads out of their asses or you get better doctors/therapists to deal with.
