If you haven't already seen it, I highly recommend Ollie Renee Schminkey's "Boobs" which you can find on youtube. So many parts of that entire video spoke to me on a deeply personal level, but these three lines in particular stood out:
"I am not trapped in my body, I am trapped in other people's perceptions of my body"
"My body is not wrong, the way people talk about my body is wrong! But my body is the only thing I can change."
"I was not born into the wrong body... I was born into a world that does not know what my body means."
Maybe it's because Ollie identifies as gender neutral which is closer to where I am, but this is exactly how I feel. I get so angry all the time because it's not even really ME that I want to change, it's everyone else around me! I want to change the world around me until everyone sees in me what I see in myself, but I know that can't happen. I don't want to have to bend over backwards in order for everyone in my life to perceive me the way I perceive myself, but I know I'm going to have to. The only thing you can change is your own body, in order to be accepted in a broken society, and it sucks, but that's the only real option the world gives you... take it or leave it.
What do you guys think about this video?
