Title: Trans guy dropping by
Post by: GaySchizoAngst on May 07, 2014, 06:33:55 PM
Hola! I'm Dylan, FtM, and I own five aquatic snails. I basically only care about marine life and dinosaurs. As the username suggests, I'm also gay, schizophrenic, and fairly angsty.
This forum looks like a nice place to waste time.
I want to be active here, so here's a question for you, dear reader, if you care to answer: Does it irk you when people say "transgendered" as if it were a verb/noun instead of saying "transgender" and using it as an adjective?

A big warm welcome Dylan! This is a great place and the support is unbeatable here. I am one who does not get hung up on things like that because I know it is usually a lack of knowledge on people who use it. I do try to gently correct them and educate them though if I run into it. Transition is hard enough without worrying about things like that, but I know some do get offended. I have Kevlar skin so not much bothers me as far as public comments or perceptions. :)

Hi Dylan,

"Transgendered" doesn't bother me at all. "->-bleeped-<-" does though. Seems so dismissive to me. Welcome to the family, Dylan.

Hey, Dylan!

Nice to see another new guy here. From what I've seen so far, this is a great place to waste time. ;)

Re: transgendered/transgender, I have no problem with either when used as an adjective. I get a little crabby when people use "transgender" as a noun: "Oh, So-and-so is a transgender." Umm, no... So-and so is a person.

Hi Dylan and welcome.  I'm new also.  I'm still very unsure about etiquette here but I'm wondering if you are pre- post- or non- op?  Obviously you don't have to answer and I'm not even sure if its ok to ask the question or any other personal questions.  I'm trying to figure out if I would benefit from T or GRS and interested in the process that others are going through or have gone through...  peace, Chance

Hi, Dylan (and Chance, since we have not met). I extremely dislike "transgendered" because "transgender" is already an adjective. To me, saying "transgendered" is like saying "happied" or "sadded."

I hate "transgender" as a noun even more.

Yes, I am a picky bastard.

Welcome to Susan's, Dylan. To be honest, until I had spent a few weeks on this forum I didn't even know about the difference myself. These days I try to use it correctly but also understand that some people are only just wrapping their brains around transgender as a concept let alone its grammatical usage.
