Title: Nose hair

Okay, I thought we could lighten things up a bit.
So, nose hair. Seriously? Seriously? Why? Why?
Why is T putting hair up my nose? I mean, I expected it to put hair on my chest. But up my nose? Seriously?
What's the reason for it? I never even knew there could be hair up there until I got on T. It's very annoying. What's the reason men have it and women don't? Is there some kind of evolutionary reason? Like men are more vulnerable to things going up their nose or something?

Men have more body hair than women. In the early days of humanity, women stayed back at the village while men went trudging through the jungle and the swamp to hunt for food. They needed extra protection from insects which spread disease.
Women, on the other hand, needed all the protein they could get to make their offspring, so their body doesn't waste any to push hair.
Don't know if this is true, but it's as good as any.

It's a holdover from the old west and riding horses across the desert chansing bandits across the desert. The more nose hair the less dust you breath in. :-\ Seriously thouh I don't have any clue other than testosterone levels. I kind of find it ironic that guys grow hair everywhere but cut the hair on the heads short while women spend so much time removing body hair and let the hair on thier heads grow long. Go figure that one out.

so then the question for us girls is: WHERE do I find those lil nose-hair-cutting-thingies? the kind that you stick into your nostril, push the end button thingy with your thumb and it spins around cutting the nose hairs? I have no idea where to go.. I looked in CVS(drug store for those not knowing, like a Walgreens/RiteAid) but didn't find them, and I'm a bit too embarrassed to go ask (WHA?? You can go spend 20minutes looking at panties but cant ask for this, seriously, Paula??!! ;)

I have a Wahl's "Groomsman Pro" trimmer that comes with a bunch of attachments, including the nose hair trimmer thingy. The battery sucks and the regular shaver is too small to really be useful, but the nose hair trimmer works pretty well.

Yup, it acts as a filter to keep stuff out of your nose. You also have cilia in your nasal passages that trap small particles and gently waft them toward your nostrils in a little cloudlet of snot.
It's OK to trim nose hairs, but apparently you shouldn't pluck them, because that can lead to infection. According to this article (http://"http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2011-12/fyi-whats-point-nose-hair") from Popular Science: "Denser nose hair can be an advantage: Scientists at Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Turkey found that patients with sparse nose hairs were nearly three times as likely to suffer from asthma as those with more-hirsute nostrils."
But I suppose men have more nose hair because they're just generally more hairy.
Here's a tool for removing them...

Oh boy. My nose hairs were noticeable to start with.
Just how much do these nose hair trimmers trim off, is it like shaving them? I'm imagining the sensation of shaved hairs growing back, all that itching... in my nostrils. Say it isn't so.

Like all body hair, women do have nostril hair but it is short and fine. Testosterone can turn it into a jungle! Once knew a cis guy who was so hairy it started growing on the bridge of his nose too!

Sorry but, yeah. Pinching your nose shortly after trimming, it will feel like there is a toothbrush up there. I just pluck (and sneeze).

Nose hair really isn't that bad. I am afaid of those little trimmers and some skit that I saw somwhere about getting all tangled up and not actually cutting them. Good small pair of scissors and a magnifying mirror is about the gentlest way. You really need nose hair it blocks a lot of things from getting into the sinus area.
Ear hair does suck. Thank God I have very little of it so far. But that is really easy to take care of too. I would definately not recomend hot waxing them though. A really good expensive strong duct tape will snag them and pull them out if you kind of pinch the hair and pull quickly. Or a good pair of tweezers will do the same but does take time. I have seen guys that have more ear hair than hair on their head. Hosnestly I don't know how they can even hear a normal toned conversation. Since I am bi it always passes through my mind how gross to muzzel up to their ears and feel a jungle.

Yeah don't pluck the nose hairs. My roommate used to pluck his, and it got infected. He went to the doctor and they freaked out because the infection almost spread to his brain. His nose was swollen 3X! Not good.
Also I have gobs of ear hair leftover from the T days. Still hasn't gone away at all, I'm wondering if it will. I might have to get it lasered off.
Until then, I use an epilator on my... ears. OUCH. But then it stays smooth for like 2 months :D
Gross. Ear tufts. Get off of me!

lol. Nose hair is the worse thing in creation. Nasty little things will say hi to the world if you don't keep them trimmed down.... I just go pluck crazy every once in a while and that does the trick.

I hate when they do that omg it is so itchy and annoying! I used to have this pair of scissors that were rounded at the ends so you could trim em and not have to worry about stabbing yourself in the nose but they got lost somehow or roomies stole em! Need to buy another pair asap. I have also plucked some of em sometimes, the long ones seems to come out quite easily and no problems so far.

I get mine waxed at European Wax Center when I get my eyebrows done. The wax they use is wonderful and it doesn't hurt that bad. (The first time is the worst.) I've noticed after HRT and getting them waxed every 3 weeks, not that many grow their anymore. The woman that does it for me (knows I'm transgender) noticed how little I get them now. She told me she gets more than I do now.
A side note, don't wax them yourself. The wax European Wax Center uses is different and it cause the shaft to expand a little temporarily to allow the hair follicle to come out easier. Regular hair remove wax and cause bleeding issues in the nose if you not careful. I use to suffer from nose bleeds a lot when I was younger (from dry environments in the winter time) and I've haven't had any issues with having my nose done.

I'm probably setting myself up for runaway growth but I found a Wahl trimmer at Walgreen for $10. Couple of different attachment thingies.. the little comb thingy for brows and a little spinny cutter thingy for the nose hairs.. AAA battery didn't last long but it worked.. so.. eh..
