Title: does humanity deserve existence?

the proof of the pudding, they say, is in the eating. pleistocene horses didn't deserve existence after a while. rats and cockroaches did, and do. what about us, humans? do we deserve it?

I'm assuming that pleistocene horses evolved into a higher form of horse, and deserved that continuation of the lease.

From a completely practical standpoint... if we deserve to live, we'll live.
We're still alive, hence we have earned the right to live. Very straightforward =p.
If we're a failure as a species, then we'll die out one way or another at some point, either by destroying the means by which we sustain ourselves, outright destroying ourselves, or creating/inciting something that destroys ourselves.
From a moralistic standpoint, well... that depends a lot on the values system of the individual doing the judging ~~
For example, is life even a good thing? Some ideologies consider life suffering or punishment. Then the question would be, what ill have we done to be made to live?
I think that unless we do something especially heinous, like wipe out another sentient species in aggression, or destroy most of the biosphere of Earth or another planet, we're pretty much okay to keep on going. =p

What's [/smithmode]?
I have no judgment to make over humanity or its existence. I have a preference, but it is not right for me to do so.

Humanity does not deserve to be alive, but nothing deserves to be alive. It's just bloody lucky.

But if nothing is just that, <the not>, as you so desperately posit, how can it deserve anything at all, much less enough luck to be 'alive'? ^-^

Deserve? Well I dunno, I don't think it's a matter of deserve, but more a matter of if our overseers will keep their little ant farm experiment going or not. As long as we keep going like this, wrapped up in our petty wars and emotional dramas, I think we're cool. They love that sorta thing.
God help us though if we ever start to wake up as a race and see the "Hand of God" as it were. Ignorance isn't just bliss, it's also a wall we might be better off keeping in place.

I don't think humans can truly progress further than what we have already accomplished without destroying ourselves in the process. We will become extinct by our own hand, and when that happens, we will have deserved it.

Humanity exists whether we like it or not. (Most of us are human, I hope) The problem is, most humans, Neanderthal or otherwise, aren't very smart. Go ahead and look how most of them carry themselves. As a collective (we are Borg?) humanity is stupid. We tend to herd like sheep and that's why most people sit around even when SHTF. Go look at all the people in politics, it's the same rehashed garbage over and over again, as in who's a Red Stater, who's Blue, who's dating who's boyfriend, etc. Likewise, look at the big religions. I think that religion nowadays is so commercialized that it's not much different than the screwy infomercials for Miracle Scissors or Sewing Bandit or the other garbage contraptions they sell from God knows where.

i've never done anything out of the ordinary either. yet i see where you're going with this. per your scenario & citing weapons of mass destruction as an example, you're correct. we, as species, are killing ourselves & one day we'll kiss our posteriors good bye forever. whose fault will that be? ours!

Bad puppy. No biscuit. Where's the smite button.
Kidding. In a good mood today. Fortunately for you lot down there.
Big Ol Red Eye, you remind of someone I used to know so well. Adorable little bastid. Was my right hand man-thing, though some times s/he were quite the bitch. Such a rebel! Thought s/he could start some stuff up here, even. I so loved that one, was my favorite for some time. Lotta spunk, know-what-I-mean?
Things is things though, and changes had to be made, doncha know.
Be very careful, you, I've got my own Big Ol Red Eye on you, so watch out.
You've been nicely warned. .
'preciate it,
GOD

Deserve? That implies we must have done something to earn this right. I do not think it works like that. Evolution has no need for the deserving, only those who can survive. No, we have done nothing to have some special dignity. One mutant virus, one meteor, one madman and humanity could go the way of the dinosaurs.
90% of all species have already gone extinct. Of that 10% remaining, 80% of those live in the ocean. The earth has always been a cycle of animals coming into existence, and eventually going extinct. The earth changes, it is not static. Our climate changes, oceans change and with that change, the animals and plants that occupy the planet change also. So far we have found human fossils dating back a few million years. The dinosaurs were around for 150.000,000 years. They were pretty successful, but in the end, they did not deserve existence.
The right to exist is the ability to survive and has a somewhat random quality to it. I don't believe anyone deserves existence.
Love always,
Elizabeth

I think everyone should have a fair shot at proving that they deserve their existance. It's obvious that some people just don't deserve to exist but what can we do?
