Title: High school reunion. Need fashion advice.

This weekend I'm going to my 35th high school reunion. I haven't seen these people since the 1970s, and I wasn't really close friends with any of the people going, but they've been really friendly and supportive when they found out I transitioned (I came out on our class facebook page. Had to, they saw my new name.) For some strange reason I'd like them to meet Suzi.
Anyway, I bought a dress for the occasion. I still have the sales slip, so I can return it. What do you think?

I faced the same situation with my 50th reunion a couple years ago, I ended up not going because it was half way across the country, but I looked at all of the pictures taken by those who did attend and only a couple of the women were in dresses, pants were the most worn fashion.
I might go to the 70th birthday party they are throwing this summer, the excuse I would use is that I want to see my sister one last time, she recently had to sell her house and move into assisted living.

I like the dress, not so sure about the shoes. On a separate note, those are going to be some of the best legs at the reunion ;)

Since your talking with some of your fellow classmates on facebook, why not ask them what they are wearing?

Hi Suzi,
I went to my 40th as Miranda, in September 2012, and I had a great time. You will too. I love the dress, but I'd lose the mukluks, lol!!!

I would recommend slacks and a pretty but muted top.

GF, go all out. Go to some very nice womens department & tell the ladies about your high shcool reunion. Try on lots & lot of outfits until you find just the right one, then the right accessories, shoes, purse, jewerly ,etc. You are only going to do this once. Do it up perfect girl friend.

Great dress, agree that shoes rather than boots would work better with that outfit for the occasion.
I went to an all boys school. That was 30 years ago now. Deliberately missed the 10 year as I was just coming out of my first attempt at transition. If they've had a 20th & 30th I never heard about it and wouldn't have gone anyway. Not really keen on seeing any of those guys, some might be supportive but I imagine a number of them would treat me like a big joke.

(sorry if this is blunt btw, just pretend I'm clinton kelly :3)
I don't like the sleeves with the v neck and I think the sharpness of the v does not flatter your chin/jaw. I feel like you should take some scissors to the sleeves tho. lol. The boots are obviously not gonna work... maybe pick up some blue or black pumps, flats if you must (If you're going for casual don't wear that dress to begin with). and I think some black tights/leggings would flatter your legs better than hose if you are wearing it unless it is going to be too hot or something.
I'm just seeing messy proportions here, the sleeves are bad for your shoulders, neckline is bad for your chin, also get a push up bra and scoop and swoop. lol. Keep the belt though, whatever you end up with. So yeah i would return the dress. That exact dress but sleeveless and with a softer neckline would be pretty though. Hope that helps!

I agree with Cindy, vcute dress, but definitely not the shoes. What you need is some open toe pump shoes with medium heels. Go to the beautician and get yourself a pedicure with nice colour polish (preferably matching fingernails and a lipstick as well - look at OPI). Also a necklace of some sort would be great. Also don't forget to wear some nice earrings.
Remember to make sure your eyebrows are well shaped with a high female curve.
You will then look a million dollars. Actually another idea is to wear open toe pantie hose or stockings - Marks & Spencer in the UK do a great line (also available on line).
If you want to be really sexy, of course you should be thinking of a nice push up bra to accentuate and project your new budding breasts, matching lingerie is good too - of course only you will know how sexy it all looks under the dress!

I agree with Panda. That's a difficult length and doesn't really flatter your fantastic figure. Maybe with black 200 denier tights but hard to say from a headless pic.

That is so cool to attend your 25th high school reunion. None of us can see you completley to help give proper advise on your wardrope. Please try to visit a nice woman's dress shop & let the women there help you to look your best. That is their job to make women look their best. Have fun GF.

I love the dress as is, but I would go with either a nice black pump or ankle boots if you want to stay with a boot style. Don't know if I would go with hose tho.. if you've got some tanning going, you'd be fine without hose, tights or leggings. Push-up is a def must, but I like the dress, sleeves too as is, but that's just me.
My 40th is in 3 yrs, while I would LOVE to go as Paula and I think most of my friends would support me, I just don't know if I could.

I went to my 40th reunion and at first I was just thought of as one of the alumni guys' wives, lol! There was a girl there that I used to wish I was in her little group. She was really pretty, but got prettiest girl, nicest girl, shiest girl and just plain nice. I knew her a little, but I was sooo jealous of all the girls because I never wanted to hang out with a bunch of idiot guys. I wanted to be talking with and gossiping about which guys are cute, who's a jerk, etc. Anyhoo, she came up to me when she found out who I was and that I'd transitioned and I talked to her for hours and told her how I felt about her in school. She told me she just wished I would have been born a girl, but that I'm finally who I'm supposed to be. Everyone was great except for one of my old friends, an on fire born again Christian woman who asked me if she and her husband could 'lay hands' on me. I told them, "for what, to drive out the demons? I was born this way and I fought it for 57 years, and the biggest mistake I ever made was not transitioning sooner. So the answer is NO!!! Find someone who's really sinning, Pam!" She had the gall to ask me again, and I said 'how dare you embarrass me like that! Who are you to judge whether I'm sinning?!?! Now stop it, Pam. We've always been friends, but I was never anything like happy. I finally am, so stop it now.." and I walked away. That was pretty extreme and I'm sure you won't have any unfortunate, stupid incidents like that.
And next time you post a photo, show us your pretty face! I wish I was as thin as you! Have a great time, and I think the dress will work great with the right shoes, jewelry and you inside them!!! Hugs, Mira

I have a very close friend that I went from the first grade thru the 12th grade with. She is so nice & we are such good girl friends today. She knew all along that I should have been physically born a girl. I was always very feminine & ejoyed being with my group/the girls. All this talk about HS reunions reminds me of her.

Thank you so much for your responses. Seems like most folks think I should keep the dress. (This will be my very, very first time wearing a dress. Excited!) Also thanks for the encouragement. I'm actually looking forward to the reunion.
Everyone seems to hate the boots. Heels are out of the question (I'm tall enough and awkward enough as it is). And size-12 girls can't just pop out to the discount store and pick out whatever they fancy. Occasionally I'll fall in love with something, but otherwise, barring an Internet order, I'm stuck with what's in my closet. I've gotten a lot of compliments on those ankle boots, but the people have spoken. The alternative is a pair of ballet-style flats I bought when I was first going out as Suzi, so I'll probably go with them.

I don't think that the boots themselves are bad, (can't really make a judgment because of the resolution). I just didn't feel like they worked with the dress. The dress looks light, airy and classic and I think the boots disrupt that flow. Looking at the picture, the boots get my attention over the dress, and i think you want the opposite to be true. That is where I was coming from :)

Zappos has free 1-day shipping I'm sure with bigger sizes, but yeah ballet flats are fine.
you could even pick up a more flattering dress (http://www.zappos.com/donna-morgan-eyelet-fit-flare-dress-w-belt-cobalt) on there

I like the dress though I too would prefer it sleeveless. But the dress as is is ok. The boots however just don't work for me. As Sad Panda pointed out Zappos has free 1 day shipping and they carry size 12's in a variety of styles. Here's their link: http://www.zappos.com/ (http://www.zappos.com/)
Don't forget to let us know how it works out!

Don't hold back, dude. Tell me how you really feel. I suppose I should appreciate the suggestion that I should have spent way more on my first dress than I did, but some of us watch our pennies.

Sorry, it wasn't about the price! Any dress works just wanted to show you visually what I meant. The sleeves are not flattering on anything but small shoulders, they just make it look like a t-shirt. They should just look like an accent, not a real extension of the garment, the point is that the ideal is an hourglass silhouette which is balanced, and having a dark color, you can create any silhouette you want, no reason for it to be top heavy. That's my honest opinion and I don't mean any offense at all! :)
