If so I could REALLY use your help!

I got hit with a bum assignment in which we need to come up with some sort of spoken word in multiple languages in order to record them.  Like here is this story, ad, ect... in english and then in another language.  I'm a sound design MFA student, and this really has nothing to do with the class I'm taking.  Its a real pain.  Its supposed to be a class about ADR for film... yet we're recording voices in multiple languages instead?  It really makes no sense.  If we're not bilingual we will never be applying for jobs as a translator... aaaand maybe we should have an assignment actually related to ADR.... 

Anywho... I don't speak any other language except for some basic spanish.  Issue there is there is that there is a really outspoken guy in my class from Puerto Rico who was recently complaining about non-spanish speakers speaking spanish in the student films, so I'm not about to have a non-speaker come in and record a spanish translation I come up with only to have him tear it apart. 

Can anyone help me out?  Romance languages or german would probably be easiest for my actors... I know many of them took french, spanish, or german in school, but not enough to competently translate anything for me at this point.

My professor is really into the idea of advertisements... I've tried looking up ads from other countries to attempt to just roughly translate them myself, but am having a hard time finding radio ads at all separate from the total broadcast.  TV ads don't tend to seem to have enough actual talking, but one with a longish voice over could work.

Anyway you get the point and I've rambled on enough.  I'm really kind of at my last hope with this one trying on here.  If anyones got any advice/could provide assistance that would be great! 

Sorry, I'm only fluent in three Japanese phrases, can count to ten in Italian and know the German word for eraser... and that's it.

Its easy to translate to german though not allways come out in german  because of our English langauge .

As a bulgarian, I need to speak many languages to find information and to be able to talk to people, so beside the bulgarian, I speak english, some sort of spanish, german and czech, also can read in russian, but cannot speak, because I didn't had to, so I lost this ability...

I speak Afrikaans, which is a Dutch-based dialect that is widely spoken in Southern Africa. How's that for eccentric? ;)

A lot of South African stuff is done in multiple languages: very often, the same radio & TV ads will have English and Afrikaans versions of the same text (and isiZulu, the two Sothos, Xhosa etc. etc. etc.)

I studied in Italy for a summer semester and can speak a little Italian.  I'm very rusty and probably wouldn't be much help, but I'm willing to try.  To be honest, most of my attempts at speaking Italian were imperfect though I did pick up the Italian dialect.  Other than a little Italian, I took Spanish in high school, though it's been forever since I've actually actively spoken the language.  Again, I probably can't help you, but I'm always willing to give it a shot.

A lot often gets mixed in translation with google translate.  My Italian professor could always tell when someone was using it.  The problem is it will directly translate things when speaking a language requires some knowledge of the language itself. 

By the way, it's awesome that you speak all those languages.  One day I hope to master Italian and French, but I've been avoiding these things since graduating college.

We used to play a game back in the late '90s/early noughties called 'BabelFishing'.

You'd type a perfectly ordinary paragraph in English; copy & paste it into BabelFish (the precursor of Google Translate); translate it into as different a language as possible (e.g. Mandarin); then translate it into any other language (e.g. German); and then back to English. You then send the results to a friend, and they have to try to figure out what planet you're on what on Earth you originally said.

Thats awesome guys!  Lots of great languages on here.  I hope, someday, to fully master my spanish (I grew up in SoCal taking spanish EVERY YEAR since kindergarten... yet still...).  This things really got me goin crazy.... What I hate more than anything is bull->-bleeped-<- assignments that spin your wheels for nothing.


And yea.. Thats my problem with the google translate.  It never seems to really get it quite right. 

I guess I'll try posting a few ads/bits later on tonight and see if I can get a few quick translations!

So I found these Red Cross ads.  They actually give a spanish translation for a lot of them, but like I said... I'm trying to avoid Spanish unless I can get a legit Spanish speaker. 

Any language would be great.  If you're feeling super enthused about it (or super bored) you could give a little pronunciation help here and there.  Or just give an oral translation.

Okey dokey... here are all three paragraphs, translated by my good self into Afrikaans.

After translating them, I found that the Google Translate tool can read them back to you in passable Afrikaans that gives a perfectly adequate pronunciation guide for a non-Afrikaans speaker, so if you'd like to hear how it's pronounced, just copy & paste each paragraph into Google Translate, set the language to 'Afrikaans', and then click on the speaker icon in the bottom-right corner of the text box; it'll read it to you out loud. ;)

Here goes:

Paragraph 1:

I want to apologize Gnomekid.  I gave it a shot before, but I'm afraid my grammar is probably way off.  Since it's been a while for me with both languages, I really don't want to give you a messed up translation for a college assignment.  Sorry for that, but I hope your project goes very well for you.  :)

I know it's pretty odd with all the accents and odd characters but the nice thing is that once you know how a character sounds it's pronounced exactly as spelled, no exceptions.

I'd attempt German and Danish but it's been to long and I'd probably make a mess of it, hopefully someone here can lend a hand with some more commonly spoken languages.

I am fluent in English, French, and Spanish (many people online and irl think me a Spaniard) with an understanding of Dutch,  Portuguese, and Italian, with limited knowledge of German, Catalan, and Romanian. Wonder if this can be any help. I don't know if someone who is severely tryphanophobic would be willing to help with blood donation ads lol :P

I'm Italian so I know italian very well. Half of my family is from Germany so I can speak German too.
I also know English, French, Spanish (I have relatives there), a little of Portuguese and Catalan.
