"We had a great life in Melbourne, throwing dinner parties and seeing bands; we had a good group of friends and were happy. Everyone said we were perfect for each other. We were best friends and sexually, things were great. Then, three years in, Ryan became withdrawn. Looking back, the only indication I had that he was suffering was his insistence on shaving his armpits, saying he hated to be hairy there."

"Most transgender stories are told from the perspective of the person who changes, not their partner's or family's. I think it is important to have the other side told, as the effects are far-reaching for all concerned."

I thought I was going to read something like 'and I (the wife of a TG) chose to be a lesbian, because we stayed together', but on the contrary.
The much 'beloved' wife was told Ryan's penis was successfully 'removed' by his 'new' TG partner...and Ryan turns out to be into TG's only..(which is kind of common. Masculine husband turns into T lover and from that point on into T himself)
The wife must be a saint, she's not raging mad for being used for years by someone who's utterly selfish.
Nor is she suffering from an ID crisis after going through all this.
I guess that's because they don't have children, despite all the 'the great sex' as masculine husband and wife.
I really feel for the wife, because her faith in love and men has been damaged for life.

Quote've had relationships, most of them brief, and haven't allowed myself to fall in love again
