The statement he made in the article about trans people makes me want to cry happy tears and give him a hug <3

He seems like a good kid and I'm glad that he is advocating for transgender rights, but this still kind of irks me. I can't quite articulate why, but I think it's the general idea of gay men being equated to women as a stereotype that rubs me the wrong way.
Either way, it's nice to see his peers were so supportive. :)

I would be so happy about this if he were a trans girl, but I do have to admit that I feel bad for the girls who were candidates because they lost to a legit boy. A gay male is not a female and shouldn't be in female competition. Women (cis, intersex, and trans) should be the only ones in female competition. So, I am not happy for him over this. I am happy for him that he seems like an amazing young man with a huge heart, and he's seemingly a very positive person, but he should not be prom queen unless he actually identifies as a she.
What if he identifies as a Drag Queen (still identifies as a "he")?
I don't have a problem because these are things students run for and are voted as the winner. Since he had the most votes, he won with the consent of the majority of students, it's their school and their decision on who's qualified to win. Gender is something I see as being fluid, maybe he's somewhere in the middle and we just don't know it.

I agree. I'm glad the kids seem supportive, but this story rubs me the wrong way.

He actually said that he identifies as a HE, and that he's gay... I would be happy though if it was him and his boyfriend maybe getting the title together? But really maybe he should have just won the prom king instead... I think some gay guys would find it offensive to be elected prom queen, but he didn't so maybe he is gender fluid? But well, if he's happy then it's ok... Still I agree about the other girls being stripped out of the title like that XD
