I've been struggling with my gender identity for a very long time. I got close to coming out to everyone and transitioning four years ago, but then I questioned if I was really trans and went back to living as a masculine woman / genderqueer / gender fluid. Recently I got kind of a wake-up call and realized I needed to do a better job of dealing with my gender issues. So this is an update.
After all the crazy stuff happened, I took a week off from work, travelled, and learned how to play drums. In doing so, I ended up meeting some really great queer and trans people. So I now have a supportive community! We're playing music together and I'm starting to open up to them about my gender issues. One of them is even on the board of a local trans organization and does a lot of outreach to trans people who are just coming out.
So I definitely got lucky, and at just the right time. It's really good to finally be opening up about this stuff and talking to people who understand.
