Title: x-rays and ear ring/first piercing
Post by: Shana-chan on May 31, 2014, 06:02:22 PM
Hey, just wanted to know if I was to get x-rays on my mouth if that would cause any problems if I was to get my ears pieced with 14K gold ear rings that same day before the x-rays? This would be my first ear piercing and since they finally got the ear rings I wanted months back in, I REALLY want to get them done.

X-rays should not be a problem at all. MRIs are a different story though.  :)

x-rays=awesome but, mri? What's an mri and would that prevent me from getting my ears pierced for the first time?

Also, any tips for me with my 1st ear piercing? Like how to keep them clean and not get infected, especially when you work around food and cooking it which =grease all over your face.

MRIs generate a magnetic field which heats metal and uses magnets that could pull them out. No metal is allowed in or near MRI machines.

I had my ears pierced earlier this year and have been using stainless steel earrings. I recently tried titanium and had some kind of "reaction", or maybe it was all in my head. I don't think earrings and x-rays will be a problem though.

For ear rings, don't touch them!!! You may get them infected (I did and had to go on antibiotics). Clean with either salt water, hydrogen peroxide or similar. Use clean hands!!!

Some people say to rotate them, I was told not to, and they are fine.

The main thing is to avoid infection and that is all down to cleanliness.

Ok, just need to make sure of something here. I will be having my molars removed soonish, I may be put to sleep and I have no idea what all they'd need to do atm in order to remove them so, should it be safe to get my ears pierced the same day I go in for a consultation regarding my molars being removed which while I doubt this, I may also that same day get them removed, so is it safe and all?

How am I supposed to clean my ears then while bathing/in the shower? Can you get them wet? (The ears and ear rings) and, shouldn't the person who pierces your ears give you some sort of cleaning solution to keep them from getting them infected?

What about when you work around and cook food which the grease gets all over your face? Would that be a problem?

If you are washing in the shower I would think you are clean!

Environment doesn't mean much so working in A greasy area is fine, just resist touching your ears.

Most places sell you a cleaning solution.

Getting them wet in the shower is fine, just use the cleaning solution after as soap can get in around the posts and irritate the tissue.
I was given a complimentary bottle of cleanser with the piercing, but they also sell it at most piercing shops.
I wouldn't worry about the piercing and dental visits on the same day. I would hope the dentist isn't going to be tugging on your ears too much  :D

So, I got my ears pierced today! :) NOT! >:( No, sadly I go through a heck of a lot and get there wearing my dress, lip stick, carrying my purse, using my female voice and finally am about to get them pierced. I am told to sign a waver form (Ok, I'll just put down my gender neutral name and leave out my first being a male only name), I'm asked, how old am I, I tell her ??? which is my actual age btw and I'm over 18 for sure and then, before I even GET the chance to sign it, she asks me for something I did not ever expect. "Can I see your ID please?"

...

I'm sorry I don't have it with me I tell her and she replies "If you don't have your ID then I can't pierce your ears." I walk off, trying to hold back tears, mad, hurt, upset at the world/woman who were lucky enough to be born fully female and saying in my head, curse you, you can all rot in hell! >:( A lot more happened today too but, I just got through making a thread about that and, you can find it in the same part of where this thread is. Btw, my ID is old, outdated and the person whose in the pic doesn't look like the me of now anymore and I left it at home on purpose but REALLY!? Why do you need to see my ID!? Is that a common procedure? If not then I can only think of one reason why she asked me for it and I don't believe it was because I didn't pass. ^_^' This is also why I haven't tasted a sip of alcohol even though I want too. ^_^'

As I said to your other post, it is often required to prove you are over 18. They are saving themselves from lawsuits.

I had to show my I'd too, and I haven't been mistaken for a minor since well before I turned 18 decades ago.

Hi Shana,

It depends on the type of dental X-ray you're having.
They can be one of three types, depending on the equipment your dentist has available and the situation.
Intraoral ones where you may bite on something or hold something in place.
Full mouth (OPG)
3D (cone beam)

Intraoral X-rays won't be interfered with by earrings.
OPGs can be - but if the area examined is not in the same vertical plane as the earring may be ok.
Cone beams get significant artifacts with metal present, and generally metals are minimised for those.

Generally speaking, the more risk of complication, the bigger the X-ray type ordered.

Good luck with having the tooth out!

Hey. Already had the x-ray and it was a machine that scanned my whole mouth by going all the way around my head. They had to take something I was wearing off of me so, I can guess ear rings would have had to go. Further reason why, though I wanted my ears pierced, it was best not to get them at that point. As for the tooth out, it's 4 actually and it's this week.. not really too worried about it truth be told. lol

Cool.  Would have been either the OPG or cone beam.  Sounds like wisdom teeth.  >.<
