Title: Celebrities and Plastic Surgeries
Post by: NoMan on June 02, 2014, 01:46:04 PM
Hello!  ;D

I know most of us get plastic surgeries. But I wanted to open a topic about something else. About plastic surgeries in general. About plastic surgeries on celebrities. Why so many celebrities get plastic surgeries nowadays (in your opinion)? I have a couple of celebrities/people in mind to talk about. One is Tori Amos (http://www.plasticsurgeryneed.com/tori-amos-talks-about-plastic-surgery/). I really like her change.

But what do you think about this case - A brazilian guy gets a plastic surgery to look more asian (http://www.complex.com/style/2014/06/brazilian-man-gets-plastic-surgery-to-look-more-asian).

Why do you think so many celebrities, yet ordinary people get plastic surgeries to look in different ways? Do you think there should be an age limit for that?

If they have the means and it doesn't negatively effect my life, let them.

I saw some kind of PSA with Julie Chen, a public figure I was not familiar with. Since I did not know her, I had no preconceived notions about her. All I could think was, "What's wrong with this picture?" I found her very disturbing for some unfathomable reason. I even saved the DVRed show for a little while, just for that one commercial. I finally realized that she had, well, to my mind, freaky-looking eyes. At first, I thought it was the copious makeup; she really did have a lot. Then, I realized that she must have had surgery. I think the effect looks awful and takes over her whole face, but she was an adult at the time of the surgery. She was apparently told that she wouldn't get anywhere in her career with Asian-looking eyes.

It's pretty obvious why people of Asian descent get their eyes done. I think it's sad, but if they're happy, why not? But then I think of Michael Jackson's ceaseless quest to look less "black." And I know that some people have unreasonable expectations or are cosmetic surgery junkies. I feel that they should be weeded out because they really do have other issues; surgeons should be invested enough in the mental health and stability of their clients to refuse such extreme cases. Most surgeons do, but some don't. I imagine it's harder to turn down wealthy celebs than regular everyday folks.

I have mixed feelings about cosmetic surgeries, and I do think that there should be an age limit unless the child has some kind of documented defect.

I think it's important to differentiate between plastic and corrective surgeries.

Most of us aren't having plastic surgeries, we're having corrective surgeries -- to correct any masculinization in our faces, incorrect genetalia, etc.

Plastic surgery is usually to make you look different (unless it's like a small anti-wrinkle thing). People probably have some sort of insecurities hugely out of proportion for this.
