Title: Does age effect HRT (MTF)
Post by: AshleyJordan on June 18, 2014, 04:56:52 PM
Hello Susan's! I'm a trans girl, and I plan on starting HRT as soon as I graduate from school and have some questions. Will my age for HRT effect it's results? I'm a late bloomer currently and am hoping for "C" cups, I am currently 5 foot 10 and am supposed to be 6 1 with my mother being a c-d cup. I weigh about 110 pounds do you have any idea what size I will probably be? And will hrt stunt my height? I'm not wanting to be 6 1 girl as I want to wear heels, but I have been unable to find anything on this, will my age enhance the effects of hrt?

The younger you start hormones the better

18 is still a good age to start
but testosterone will have damage you a lot

I suggest you take hormone blockers or something
just pls dont let T  harm you anymore...

Hello Ashley

It's very difficult to predict exactly how HRT might affect you.  In general terms, the earlier you start HRT the closer your secondary sexual characteristics will be to a genetic female.  If you start HRT between 17 and 20 you'll have pretty good results.  General experience suggests that transwomen who start HRT early could expect to be one cup smaller than their mother or any female siblings.

As for your height, there are a couple of studies of same-sex twins where one started HRT, and her final height is notably less than that of her brother.  Given your age, HRT might act as a modest brake, but you should talk to your endocrinologist about this.

And it's perfectly possible to be a 6' girl and wear heels...! :D

Hugs
Julia

Thanks for the response, I have one more question, does HRT effect who you are attracted to? I find that right now I'm attracted to girls, once I take hrt after time will I begin to become attracted to men?

No, unless you are suppressing feelings inside you.

still though sexual attraction can be a fluid thing.

I remember vaguely reading about how some of the time it does change that, I have no idea what the percentage of that is though

It is true that as a general rule of thumb the earlier for HRT the better, but from what I have seen those starting in thier teens generally have the best outcomes. There does seem to be a fair bit of variables involved though not just age.

Also expectations should also be kept in line with genetic reality, if the women in your family average B cups than getting DDs would be rare trans or not.

If you are very serious I would see what you could try to see if you could convince adults to go on blockers after all those would delay further changes in puberty but if you changed your mind (as many parents hope it is a phase) no real harm done you just start later. If you don't change your mind it could save you lots of money from correcting the damage T does (I.e brow bossing, deepening voice).

Parents might be won over more easily with the idea of saving money or placating your desire for blockers to see if it "is just a phase". Parents don't seem to respond as well to emotional arguments because they can't feel what you do they have only lived thier own lives.

Ashley, regarding your attraction to other people, the rule is that there is no rule.

You're on a great journey of self-discovery and invention now - enjoy it, free yourself from the unnecessary restrictions that have been placed on you, and explore who you are (carefully!).

Good luck!

Ashley everything comes into play with HRT. Age, genetics, health, medical issue's, diabetes right down to your personal metabolism. There is just no way to predict what will happen or how you will develop. You have to be patient as well as it takes cis girls around 10 years to fully mature and they are NOT fighting "T". All you can do is start when you can and go from there.  :)

I personally have not found this claim to be true, more of a myth circulating in the transcommunity. What if some females in your family are big and others are small? What then? What if you start during puberty versus later? There are so many factors, it's IMPOSSIBLE to tell! Time will tell. ;)

Except possible permanent sterility, not being able to conceive a child unless you freeze your sperm beforehand. And I think, you wouldn't grow taller if you discontinued and if you DIDN'T change your mind and finally decided to add estrogen, it could also be too late in terms of hips widening as your bones may have stopped growing. I also think estrogen is more responsible for stopping our growth than just inhibiting androgens, no?

I found my attraction was probably always to males but that it probably became most evident when I was ready to admit it to myself as I started HRT and lived fulltime female. But, to each their own. Some girls are attracted to girls too.
