Title: Told my GP that I was Transgender Today!
Post by: JenniferGreen on June 30, 2014, 08:03:12 AM
Well I bit the bullet and made an appointment with my GP to tell her that I was transgender.  It was a really positive experience and she was really supportive and encouraging.  She asked me what I wanted to do and I said that I would like to see what help is available on the NHS and she said she would research it and give me a call.  She also put me in touch with a gender counselling service where I now have an appointment.  I did also confess to looking into hormones to buy online and told her that I decided to go and see her instead.  She also told me that it was good that I told her about it and that I should be pleased with myself for doing it.  She also told me that there were other patients at my surgery that were going through treatment.  one has just finished the complete SRS and is doing well.  She also said that it is good that I was coming out as what I had was biological?? and it was not going to go away.  She also smiled and was very encouraging to me all the way through the consultation.  I have come away encouraged by the whole thing and feel like a new woman.  I thought I would share it with you girls as it really is a weight off my mind.  I might now get HRT if i can pass the tests!!  Hope this help some of you girls to take the step and get some professional input to your health and wellbeing.  Al my love.

Jennifer

I'm so happy for you! My GP completely freaked, started talking about me seeing a psychiatrist for antidepressants. After 10 minutes of headless chicken running he told me how safe and supported I was in their practice.

Not buying it.

Thats not good.  I think asking to see a female Dr and a young one at that helped.  Some of the male GPs i have seen there seem to be pretty crap.  I asked for a re referral to the homeopathic hospital one time and was told that he would not do that.  Stitched him up though as i told the homeopathic consultant and   she got in contact with the CCG.  Our GP's are there to help us not to put their own prejudices onto us.  I hope you have better experiences in the future. Jxx

I'm happy that your experience was so positive. Sounds like all things are go.

Thank you all for you kind replies.  I feel stronger now that I have done it like its official now or something.  Maybe its just because I am doing something to take control of it myself.  Strange really but a nice feeling.  Thanks again for your support and encouragement. Jx
