Why I Don't Celebrate LGBT Pride Month
Akilah Bolden-Monifa- 07/01/2014
"June is LGBT Pride Month, and while I'm an out and proud lesbian of African descent, I choose not to participate in LGBT pride celebrations. Here's why:
LGBT Pride Month has become more about paying lip service to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community than it is about addressing the real issues that affect us. It is a token gesture, implying that everyone can ignore our issues for the other 11 months of the year."

I think in many way's Pride as it is today has turned into a party to celebrate that most rights are now secured for the gay and lesbian communities, unfortunately other rights including trans are not secure and so there is tension.
Personally I don't mind celebrating our past victories as long as we don't forget that we are still fighting on other fronts.
