Title: Tattoo
Post by: Eevee on July 16, 2014, 08:57:05 PM
I love tattoos but I only have one so far. While I still plan on getting more, it's the first one that has me concerned right now. I got it when I was trying to convince myself that I was definitely male and always would be (because I was totally all that was man  :D), so I had designed and placed it in a more masculine fashion. Looking at it now, I'm not sure how well it will fit anymore. It also carries a lot of personal meaning to me, unfortunately. How should I go about this? Should I get it removed? Should I add more to it or try to manipulate it in any way to make it more feminine or at least neutral? I'm entirely unsure right now.

Eevee,
I have tattoo's myself, several flower tattoo's on the male organ that I affectionately call the "clit." I have some of the ones I didn't like as much covered up by other flowers. Among the flowers I have a butterfly. I kept that one. So, it is much easier to cover the tattoo with another one that would fit the female gender better, than to remove the older masculine one all together. A good tattoo artist will cover up the older one so that you will not even see it at all. You decide what you rather do, but this way might look better than removing the old one, which is a lengthy process, from what I have heard.

I don't know what to do about this...  So I know your pain!  Nothing more decisively masculine than a coat of arms on a shoulder.

I have artwork from the wall and im afraid that it looks to masculine. it is very intimidating but im gonna keep it any way. it has really significant meaning, and obviously im a huge pink Floyd fan. So if it still has significant meaning maybe you could ask a tattoo artist if he can make it more feminine or gender neutral.

Mine isn't actually far off from that. It's a modified Scottish clan crest on my arm. It will be tough to do anything with, but I could ask a tattoo artist what they can do. Luckily I go to an art school, so I have a lot of connections. I just know that I have no idea what could possibly fix what is now starting to be this much of an eyesore.

I plan to get a tattoo soon well after school that is. I would love one just a lil above my lower back, yknow... So when I wear a crop top you can see it being awesome in all its glory. ;D

Or you could move to Portland, Oregon.  We are a seriously tatted up town.

I know quite a few sexy girly-girls with bad ass tattoos on their arms and legs.  You would fit right in.

If it was me, I would totally honor what was and cherish the tattoo you already have.  And I would also embrace the present and add to the old tattoo in the spirit of the bad ass chick that you are!  You know, let it grow and evolve and tell the story of your life.

That's exactly what I would do.

Ha! I used to live there, so I certainly know all about that. Actually, I might move back to that area when I'm done with college. I plan to have about the usual number of tats for a Portland girl eventually, so I have many more to go.

So alright, I think I'll try to stop worrying about this and just add a lot to the area. Maybe it will develop over time.

Haha, I'm from the area as well...  I don't see myself moving back there though.  Phoenix is a pretty inked out city as well.

Do remember... we leave these bodies here when we're done with 'em.  We might as well live with gusto and just go for it.

My latest tattoo from March of this year:

And I hope to get much of this image on my other arm by the end of summer:

It's all in good fun!

I have a Star Wars Rebel Alliance tattoo on my upper arm/shoulder.  I don't regret the tattoo, but in retrospect it is not the most feminine placement.  My planned remedy is to add some stuff around it to make it part of a modest half sleeve, but I'm in no hurry.

Oh, forgot to mention earlier that I also have tattoo's around the areolas. They are the tribal type, which is more masculine. So, in the future I am thinking about having flowers, butterflies, or both, to cover them up. My ex-girlfriend had many flower tatts on her boobs.

Just go to n artist and ask what he or she can do to cover.  Its very common to change tattoo's to match changes in ones life.

Go to a few and check out their work as they will have their work on display.

Best Wishes

I highly urge that everyone research your artists before getting any work done. So many poorly done tattoos out in the world. Just because someone is a tattoo artist doesn't mean they're good at it.

I have this on my calf. I hope to fill up my legs with random pieces.

Can you even cover one like mine??  I figure the only options I would have are complete removal or integration

Heather, it would probably take some doing, but with the size of your tattoo, You could have a large bouquet of flowers put in there or other things. The artists can do amazing things for cover ups. It won't be cheap, but perhaps cheaper than a laser removal.

I'd love a mischievious pixie on my back. Not big... maybe the size of a cell phone.

Yea you can cover up pretty much any tattoo, even really dark ones. if they need to they can just go over it with white. Then do what ever you want done. but the white would cost about the same as your original tattoo plus you have to have the new one put on there so yes it would be very expensive. I wouldn't recommend removal as that often doesn't even completely remove the tattoo just fades it. at how much that cost its not worth the risk

I say add to it instead of covering it. I have a full tribal sleeve and am planning on making it more feminine with some pink and purple shading to the plain skin left behind, or having red tribal roses on a vine going through the open skin areas....or both for all I know lol. On my other arm is another sleeve that is a royal flush falling through flames that I'm probably gonna leave alone but don't know yet, and on my back, right over my bra is a grim reaper that goes shoulder blade to shoulder blade and that one is in the process of meeting with Dr. TatBGone (its like wrecking balm but better)

That is a beautiful tattoo, Autumn! Love it!

@Kelly- Awwww, that's so sweet, and it looks really nice. I love a tattoo with a story behind it.

I've been wanting sooo bad to get one, but I'm unsure what to get. I don't like just random things tossed all around... I know I'd prefer no color and I'd like it to go from the side of my waist down my thigh. I saw a girl once with the most wonderful tattoo done like that. It was a warrior girl battling a dragon. Something fantasy related would be up my ally... perhaps an homage to nighteyes from robin hobbs farseer books... yes. A wolf tattoo. bahaha

@OP Like others said, perhaps you could have your work incorporated into something else? I'd love to see a pic to know where you are coming from!

I never had this problem...

I got my first ink done in May 2014... I was already a woman...

I got a curvy line design tattooed on my lower back.. I want more done...

I want a something on my lower stomach, below the panty line, something on my foot or ankle, maybe something on my shoulder blade..

And so I begin my next tattoo.  This is phase 1, the outline work, started last night.  Later on we'll work at filling it in with shading and color, and the ring of fire background.  This is Vajrayogini, Buddha of Wisdom and Compassion, the Trauma Goddess.  I love her!

I've been desperatly wanting a tattoo for the better part of a year, even went to a convention and felt REALLY out of place with no ink. I have the idea in my head of what I want but have not been able to find a design yet. Oddly enough, I want one that's super masculine and one that's ultra femme.
