Title: Changing Gender on BC in Minnesota
Post by: GQjoey on July 18, 2014, 11:58:13 AM
I'm fairly confused. I was first told I can send a letter from my surgeon into the state to have my birth cert changed/amended. Now I just searched and found this...

Minnesota

Statute: Minn. Stat. Ann. ยง 144.218 (2006)

Administrative Code: Minn. Rules 4601.1100 (2006)

Notes: The Minnesota Office of the State Registrar requires a court order in order to amend the sex designation on birth certificates. The court order must specify whether the original certificate is to be amended or a new certificate is to be issued.

Summary: Minnesota will issue a birth certificate reflecting the proper sex.

Does this mean I need to physically go to court, to do this? I had my name changed 15 years ago, and had chest surgery 2 months ago. I have my "ACT" letter from my surgeon stating I can legally change my gender, but I don't know where to call or go now.

Anyone more familiar with the laws  here in Minnesota?
